September 30, 2008 - According to the reliable Video ETA, Disney will release The Complete First and Second Seasons of early '90s NBC sitcom "Blossom" on DVD on January 27th, 2009. A six-disc set carrying a $49.99 price tag, this would hold either 37 or 38 episodes depending on whether the pilot is included. Disney has released few sitcoms to DVD in season sets and recently passed home video distribution rights on a number of popular series (including "According to Jim" and the partially-released "Boy Meets World") to Lionsgate.

September 26, 2008 - Disney paraded major stars at Wednesday's all-day Studios Showcase for press and theater exhibitors. Entertainment Weekly has one of the most detailed accounts of the gala, which provided news on a variety of live-action and animated films being developed and a screening of the mostly-completed Bolt. Among those appearing were Johnny Depp, confirmed as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (2010) and Tonto in a newly-announced Lone Ranger film; Oprah Winfrey, now holding a maternal voice role in The Princess and the Frog; Nicolas Cage, headlining a now-greenlit National Treasure 3 and live-action film of The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Other sequels addressed: Wild Hogs 2 with Tim Allen and John Travolta returning, Cars 2 bumped up to 2011, and TR2N, or as it will be spoken, TRON 2.
September 23, 2008 - Our newest DVD review covers "Samantha Who?": The Complete First Season. Christina Applegate stars as a Chicago woman who awakens from an 8-day coma with retrograde amnesia and vows to start life anew as a better person. The half-hour ABC comedy series co-stars Jennifer Esposito and new Emmy winner Jean Smart. September 21, 2008 - Aaron Wallace takes a look at this week's High School Musical 2: 2-Disc Deluxe Dance Edition DVD. Though the set doesn't supply a widescreen version of the record-shattering Disney Channel sequel, it does up the ante on bonus features. Among the new inclusions are over an hour of music videos from around the globe, 4 deleted scenes, dance-along lessons, and a number of featurettes including one previewing next month's theatrical follow-up. Glenn Close reprises her role as Cruella De Vil, who is released from prison and allowed near a new pack of puppies. Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four) and real-life wife Alice Evans portray a Roger & Anita-type couple, while Gerard Depardieu plays an antagonistic fashion icon and Eric Idle voices Waddlesworth, the parrot who thinks he's a Rottweiler. Kelvin Cedeno reviews 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure - Special Edition, the animated one of Disney's three new dog DVDs released today. This 2003 direct-to-video sequel does a good job of remaining faithful to its 1961 predecessor's spirit while blazing trails of its own with a story surrounding the title's neglected puppy, a TV star, and Cruella's newest ally, a beatnik painter fond of spots. The disc is easily compared to the movie's original release, adding only an elaborate new set-top game. More...
September 14, 2008 - Join us for an early look at Schoolhouse Rock!: Election Collection, a new Disney DVD timed to the upcoming presidential election. The disc includes fourteen numbers from ABC's enduring animated musical educational line on American history and government plus two versions of "The Presidential Minute." September 12, 2008 - Disney has announced a number of DVDs scheduled for release this December. The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea Special Edition will street on December 16th with two games, a Jodi Benson-narrated virtual storybook, a new deleted song, and the new Underwater Mer-Venture Challenge game. On the same day, it will be available in The Little Mermaid Trilogy ($50.00 SRP) box set with its 1989 predecessor's Platinum Edition and the recently-debuted Ariel's Beginning plus 3 exclusive lithographs. All three movies will dramatically return to the Vault on January 30, 2009. Cover art has been posted here. Also arriving on December 16th in the same vein is another 3-Movie Collection holding the 1953 classic Peter Pan's Platinum Edition, the Pixie-Powered Edition of 2002 sequel Return to Never Land, and upcoming DTV Tinker Bell. Likewise, Peter and Return will go out of print in January.
But wait, there's more. The Ravenless DCOM sequel The Cheetah Girls: One World will come to fullscreen DVD ($29.99 SRP) and widescreen Blu-ray ($34.99 SRP) in an Extended Music Edition on December 16th. The movie includes a never-before-seen music
sequence gimmick and will be accompanied by a "Rock-Along" mode, a download of an exclusive "Feels Like Love" remix, a "Cheetah Spots" fun facts viewing mode, unspecified music videos, and Cheetah Girls glitter tattoos.
In expectation of its Platinum Edition DVD and Blu-ray release next month, Sleeping Beauty is now playing at Disney's upscale Hollywood movie house, The El Capitan Theatre, through next week. Per tradition, the company scheduled a special opening night with a panel discussion. JP Chism makes his UD debut with his report on the evening, which was emceed by producer Don Hahn and included guests Sleeping Beauty voice Mary Costa, Imagineering VP Tony Baxter, and character animator Blaine Gibson among others. 101 Dalmatians (1996) - Glenn Close stars as the wretched Cruella DeVil in this blockbuster live-action remake. Disney's new disc puts the long out-of-print film back in stores with a new anamorphic transfer and slipcover.
Camp Rock - This popular Disney Channel Original Movie relies on familiar elements to develop a new franchise and multi-platform talent. Newcomer Demi Lovato stars as an attendee of a camp for budding young musicians. There, she find elaborate song and dance sequences, a standard clique-challenged be-yourself plot, and the Jonas Brothers. In addition to a mildly lengthened cut, the Extended Rock Star Edition DVD provides a slew of bonus features including music videos, featurettes, sing-along options, and an Easter egg.
"Mickey Mouse Clubhouse": Mickey's Storybook Surprises - Fourth DVD release given to the CG-animated Playhouse Disney series delivers a record four episodes including one that hasn't aired. The disc also includes a Mad Libs-type game.

"The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries": The Complete First Season - This 1990s Saturday morning cartoon places the cat and canary alongside Granny and Hector the bulldog as a four-member team of globe-trotting detectives. The low-priced 2-disc set holds the show's first 13 half-hour episodes.
"Pushing Daisies": The Complete First Season - ABC drama shakes up genre conventions with its visual imagination, offbeat humor, and genuine heart keeping one another in balance. The often surreal storylines center on a pie maker with the gift of bringing back the dead (briefly). Warner's 3-disc set serves up all nine episodes plus featurettes on each at a standard movie price.
Child's Play: Chucky's 20th Birthday Edition - MGM supplies a long-awaited upgrade for its 1988 horror franchise starter, which tells of a cheerful boy doll that inherits a killer's soul and menaces the family that buys him. The disc includes the movie's first widescreen transfer and 5.1 soundtrack in Region 1 and also piles on new bonus features, including multiple audio commentaries, a host of featurettes, and even some Easter Eggs.
Alvin and the Chipmunks Go to the Movies: Daytona Jones and the Pearl of Wisdom - The third compilation of the 1990 spin-off to NBC's hit Saturday morning cartoon provides animated Chipmunk versions of the Indiana Jones movies, Batman, and RoboCop.
"Eli Stone": The Complete First Season - This ABC drama stars Jonny Lee Miller as a San Francisco lawyer whose newly-discovered brain aneurysm produces fanciful visions he uses to represent underdogs in need. Disney's 4-disc set serves up 13 episodes, 3 audio commentaries, an extended cut of the pilot, 4 featurettes, 7 deleted scenes, and bloopers.
The Counterfeiters - This Best Foreign Film Oscar winner dramatizes the true story of a Nazi captive skilled in forgery. Sony's DVD bears a commentary, a making-of featurette, interviews, deleted scenes, a Q&A session, and a showcase of artifacts by author and Holocaust survivor Adolf Burger.
Then She Found Me - Helen Hunt returns to acting and debuts as writer-director-producer of this R-rated independent romantic dramedy about a schoolteacher hoping to get pregnant in spite of challenges. Bette Midler, Colin Firth, and Matthew Broderick co-star. The DVD includes a Hunt audio commentary, cast interviews, a featurette, and the trailer.
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: Remastered Deluxe Edition - Warner's disc pairs the 1966 Halloween gem with little-known 1981 Peanuts special It's Magic, Charlie Brown. The slipcovered new release also delivers a new 14-minute featurette, free iTunes downloads of two songs, and improved picture quality.
