From Screen to Theme: Brent Dodge’s Book Series of Everything Disney®
You can purchase the first book from his website (where he'll personally autograph it free of charge) or via online e-tailers such as Amazon and Barnes&Noble.
The website has a lot of great features, including videos of some of the references discussed in his book, as well as Disney trivia, and of course, the weekly W.E.D.nesday Show. Last night, for example, he hosted yet another exciting Head to Head Trivia Challenge and then discussed Pizzafari in Animal Kingdom, complete with a homemade costume, evil foes, and guest appearance by "cartoon Brent".
In addition, From Screen to Theme also hosts monthly "Movie Clubs" in which the W.E.D.friends and guests gather together for an online chat about a specific movie of the month. Last month was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and this past Monday saw discussion for Pete's Dragon. A lot of different elements of the movie is discussed and analyzed, sometimes bringing new and interesting points of view and opinions you'd never think about yourself. For instance, most everyone here knows my dislike of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I find the story and characters to be underdeveloped, despite some fine animation and a few good songs. But it's not my most favourite Disney movie (it's one of my least favourites, to be honest). However, after viewing it for the Movie Club and discussing it with other W.E.D.friends, I've gained a bit more appreciation than I expected (though it's still far from being a "favourite anything"), and we actually all had a longer-than-anticipated discussion about the character of the Huntsman, and how important and underappreciated he is in the movie.
Finally, there's the book itself. The book itself is a great read for fans of both Disney movies and the Disney theme parks (in this case, the Walt Disney World Resort). If you enjoy finding Hidden Mickeys and like challenging yourselves to go out of your way to see something new in the theme parks and resorts, then you'll love the book.
The book is divided into chapters according to movie, with each movie given a "Film in 3 Paragraphs" summary. It's both thrifty and detailed in that respect, as it gives enough away for you to remember the film, while not spoiling it for those who have yet to view it. After the summary, the movie's references are broken up according to each theme park, Downtown Disney, and the resorts. It's amazing just how many references there are to some of the more notable animated characters in Disney history! In addition, not only is it a guide to finding references to most every Disney Animated Classic (a few are sadly not represented in the parks, as you'll discover in the book), but it's also a great book filled with trivia and other interesting facts about the Disney movies we love.
If you're a fan of Disney theme parks, of Disney movies, or even just want to know every place in the resort that features Peter Pan, you'll love From Screen to Theme.
