Help, I received a bootleg copy of BATB PE

Post by rj.disney »

Hi, I'm new here.

I want to ask help in comparing my copy of BATB PE with what you guys have as I know my copy is a bootleg (I found out when the discs played in my Region-3 player, wasn't it supposed to be Region-1?).

Here are the pictures of my copy:

The inserts and cover art have typographical errors and italicization inconsistencies..

And is this picture really this fuzzy?

Also, the playing side of discs near the center do not have any bar codes compared to my original Snow White 2001 PE:

Sorry if it's too much to ask but I would like to ask for pictures of the same pages from the inserts, cove art and disc from your BATB PE to show to my seller the comparison and discrepancies between the legit copy and the bootleg I have. I trust my seller that he would replace my copy as I bought DVDs from him before and this was the first time that I have received a bootleg copy.

Thanks!

I took a few pictures of my Beauty and the Beast DVD for you!
I'm really sorry if the quality is too bad, my camera isn't the greatest thing in the world and my scanner is broken.. I put them in their URL link to prevent stretching the forum out too much,
but to get you started:

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z14/ ... 1256258406

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z14/ ... 1256258467

Hopefully others can supply you with more pictures of better quality!
But yes, yours is definetly a bootleg version. Also check the spine number, if it doesn't say 24962 then that's further proof that it is a bootleg!

Where did you order the DVD from? Can you return it and send in a complaint?

It's unfortunate that you got a bootleg. :(

On the other hand, it's pretty funny that there are so many grammatical errors in this bootleg. Clearly by looking at your pictures, the bootlegger had access to the original inserts, why re-type what was written on them? Plus, if you're making a bootleg, wouldn't you think they would want it to look authentic and check for typos? It amazes me how stupid bootleggers are.

My suggestion is to always check stores that sell used CDs/DVDs/Video Games such as FYE, which is where I go. They may be a bit pricey, but you're guaranteed 100% satisfaction with your product or all your money back within 30 days - no questions asked.

FYI - I found a used copy of the PE of BatB in Gamestop about 4 years ago, cost me $12.99 and was in excellent condition, and it included everything but the slipcover, so I bought it. Since I am anal about some of my DVDs (especially the OOP ones I track down), I wanted the slipcover, and when I found a used copy of BatB in FYE about 2 years ago for $26.99 I bought it. Sure it's pretty expensive, but it came with the slipcover and inserts and was authentic.

Just a little heads up! Although it may cost a little more, you are ensured quality and satisfaction and you won't receive a poorly-assembled bootleg.

Welcome to UD, by the way! :)

I bought my copy from an independent seller from an online forum of DVD buyers..

I just sent my complaint with the comparison photos (thanks Just.a.Friend!)..

I bought DVDs from him before including the R1s for Snow White 2001 PE, Aladdin Gift Set and Pocahontas 10th Anniversary Edition.. Now, don't ask me to re-check my copies if they're legit, coz I just did  they are indeed original copies... This was the first case he sent me a bootleg version.. and for one thing, he did not previously own the DVDs I bought from him, he gets to order them from his "source" there in the US.

I just hope that he would respond to my complaints coz I'm not letting go of my money that easily..

That sucks. Hope you get a refund.

I saw the Disney movie titles below the cast pictures are spelt wrong too.
The Lion Ling
The Hunchback of Natre Dame
The Jangle Book (Sleigh bells ring. Are you listening? In the lane, snow is glistening...)
Malan
Cinderells
Sleeping Bearty (Aurora's title if she were a TY Beanie Baby bear.)

Shockingly, Pocahontas was spelt correctly. I used to keep spelling it 'Pocahantas'.

a little update on my case:

My seller already refunded the $40 I paid for the bootleg copy. He got a refund from his seller after filing a complaint to the site and returned the two copies. It turns out that he also bought a copy for himself and never would have found out that what we got were two bootlegs until I told him and showed him the comparison pictures.

If you guys were wondering, he bought our copies at Amazon for $30 each and the seller's description of the product was that both were brand new and legit copies. He already complained to Amazon and I gave him the contact details leuchtmuschel gave.

Anyways, I know that the Diamond Edition is coming out next year but I still did not give up on acquiring the Platinum DVD. And with a twist of luck, I found another for sale only for $3.50!! This time, I know what I got is legit. It's got the slipcover which opens like a book and I checked the inserts for typos. It even has the original coupons which the bootleg did not have. I even checked the picture quality and it's a lot sharper than the bootleg copy. I thought before that the very bad pixelation in the bootleg copy was just the result of the compression issue in the R1 due to 3 movies being in one disc but this legit copy is a thousand times better. Although there were still digital artifacts present, it's not as bad as the bootleg one where the picture would freeze and the images would sometimes appear in jagged lines.

Here's my copy:

I bought it using my $40 refund and I got to keep my $36.50 :D pretty good deal huh? :)

Very good deal!
Glad to know everything worked out alright! Congratulations!

And I too would have gotten the Platinum Edition, even this close to the Diamond release. It's a very nice DVD set in my opinion!
Again, glad to know that everything worked out okay!

I'm so happy everything turned out alright!

But I must say... I was mildly amused by the scans of the bootleg copy... It gave me some chuckles.

After all, I simply adored Angch Lansbury as the voice "behink" Mrs. Potts!

Wow, amazing story, rj.disney!

It was nice to read that you ended up helping your seller find out he got a bootleg as well! And you saved $36.50!

This really isn't related to the problem you had. I just thought that an interesting thing I found online would go well with the screencaps of the bootleg....

Say what you will, Penelope Cruz was a great Hermione. And who would have thought Samantha Morton was cut out to play Hagrid?

I just can't believe that the film was directed by Billy Bob Thornton, Harold Ramis, Kevin Lima, and Chris Buck!

LOL @ that!

Have you tried watching pirated movies with the subtitles on?
There was this bootleg copy of a Star Wars movie people form an online forum were laughing at.

It was the opening scene, "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" and the subtitles went like "A long time ago in a far away galaxy".

I was like "WTF? didn't they read the letters on the screen?

For the people that bought BATB in stores a few years back, can you please tell me or takes pictures of the bottoms of both discs. On mine, the Disc 1 bottom is a little on the gold tint side, but on Disc 2, its silver. I don't know if that is how it is suppose to be. But mine really does look legit. So I just want to make sure mine is not bootleg!
