Help about Fantasia DVDs
I really like the Fantasia films, but I've only got a Region 3 almost-barebones DVD for Fantasia (1990 cut version) and a VHS for Fantasia 2000, so I want to upgrade both.
Now I've already found the 60th Anniversary Fantasia disc and the Fantasia 2000 disc for HK$188 (US$24) each, and the Fantasia Anthology set for HK$575 (US$74). That's where the problem is: if I buy the two films separately, I lose the bonus disc but I only need to pay HK$376 (US$48 ) whileas if I buy the Anthology set I need to pay HK$199 (US$26) more! Is the bonus disc worth so much (it's even more expensive then each of the films)? I would appreciate a lot if anyone gave me any suggestions, thanks.

In my opinion the bonus disc is one of the best Disney's ever done. Its in the same format at the old Ultimate Toybox bonus disc, being split into two, with the bulk of the extras being for Fantasia or Fantasia 2000.
Each film is split into its segments, with each segment having text screens, various galleries, some have alternative concepts and unused animation/storyboards and interviews. As to its worth to you, well, it depends on how much you enjoy the second disc on Snow White, or the bonus disc on Ultimate Toybox etc.
However, are you sure the other discs you are purchasing contain the 50 minute documentaries on them? It would be a shame if these are not included, as the bonus disc is a fine appendix for the information contained in the documentaries.

Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I have the Fantasia Anthology, and I have to tell you, that it is probably one of the bests collector editions out there, well for Disney DVDs at least. I would go for the Fantasia Anthology, even if it does cost more money, because you wouldn't want to not have the Bonus Disc, that was simply AMAZING. It tells us practically everything on each segment in the movies, with galleries, and all other different kinds of stuff, like Claire de Lune. Go for the Fantasia Anthology!!

As far as the individual discs versus box set dilemma goes, these individual discs are identical to the box set counterparts, which means you get two audio commentaries and the 50-minute documentary on each film. Like the three above me have said, the Disc 3 goodies are extremely good. But it's not like going the other route, you won't be getting some good bonus features too. I wonder if one could find just Disc 3 on eBay for cheaper. Still, even with the $48 + $26, you're not doing bad for a terrific set that has been out of print for several years now. And who knows what Disney will decide to lop off when they inevitably revisit the film?

Now why would you do something crazy like that, Lars?Lars Vermundsberget wrote:Good to see you're happy with it - if I for some reason had to sell off my DVDs one by one, the Fantasia set would be among the last ones to go...
