Many of Tarantino's movies seem too indulgent to care about, but Inglourious Basterds was one of the best of his career and I'm hopeful but skeptical that he can maintain that winning blend of substance and style in this spaghetti western. Foxx was cast in the title role after Will Smith rumors fell through. Too bad for Smith; this sounds like it would have been a good chance for him to stretch himself. Kevin Costner will also miss out an opportunity to reinvent; he dropped out and was replaced by Russell.
Outlook: Promising
