Inspired by MickeyMouseBoy's review of Mariah Carey's CD, I'll review another new CD, Jennifer Lopez's Rebirth
After we last heard musically from her on 2002's "This Is Me...Then", Jennifer Lopez hasn't been just sitting around. After the fallout known as "Bennifer" which included the highly publicized split with Ben Affleck & the stink bomb knows as "Gigli", Jennifer has spent the last few years rebuilding her career with another high profile marriage to Marc Anthony, launching a fashion line "Sweetface" and continuing her movie career with "Shall We Dance?" Jennifer finally comes back to the music world with a "Rebirth". While not her greatest CD Jennifer certainly makes another strong impact.
Tracks:
1. Get Right: The 1st single was an instant radio smash which provided Jennifer the opportunity to make one of the most creative videos of the year in my opinion. GRADE: B+
2. Step Into My World: This song has Jennifer taking us on a vocal journey into her world through surprising good beats and strong vocals. GRADE: B
3. Hold You Down (ft. Fat Joe): Jennifer's collab with Fat Joe has been compared to past hit "All I Have" but "Hold You Down" lacks any motivation it seems with no interaction felt on the song between the two singers GRADE:B-
4. Whatever You Wanna Do: A classic J. Lo dance song but with nothing too unique or good about it to be remembered... GRADE: C+
5. Cherry Pie: ...Until you get to track 5 here, Cherry Pie! This song is one of the best on here with Jennifer talking about how she meets a guy which drives her crazy and makes her lose all her inhibitions. So much fun! GRADE: B+
6. I Got U: This song is also very good! A great carefree song that would make a great 3rd single. GRADE: B+
7. Still Around: Hmm, this is basically telling the same message as the song before this but in a less fun way with not as creative lyrics. I would stick to track 6. GRADE: B-
8. Ryde Or Die: The best slow song on the CD. This is a very nice song with Jennifer telling all she'd do her her man. GRADE: B
9. I, Love: I don't have much to say on this track. A very weird song with not much too it. GRADE: C
10. He'll Be Back: The worst song on the album! It's produced by Timbaland so you'd think it was going to be good but is just so dreary it is weird it made the cut to go on the album. GRADE: C-
11. (Can't Believe) This Is Me: This song is not too bad but it just is a little too depressing. Fun Fact: Was going to be on her Spanish cd later this year but was changed to english and put on this cd instead. GRADE: C+
12. Get Right (Remix) (ft. Fabolous): The best song on the album. I'm not a big rap fan but Fabolous just adds greatly to the already great song. A-
ALBUM GRADE: B
Again, this is not J. Lo's greatest cd but I think she's finally got it down pat. Hopefully after her next spanish cd, I predict she will finally make the definitive album which will be the best one of her career.
