I can’t stand this guy Iger (nicknamed Ogre by certain cast members). I don’t want to offend anyone who may think differently, but I’ve NEVER thought much of him.

Disney's Divinity wrote: Thu Jul 13, 2023 1:23 pmHe was part of the wage fixing scandal years ago, wasn't he? So that doesn't surprise me. CEOs are always money-oriented above anything else.
He was, even though his role in the wage-fixing and Lasseter scandals was underplayed in the press. I'm not surprised he feels this way; just surprised he's reckless and stupid enough to make such comments publicly. He's already getting blowback for it.

The nonsense coming out of Iger’s mouth is, as Fran Drescher aptly put it, disgusting. Calling the worker’s demands unrealistic only makes sense if you’re also willing to admit that the streaming strategies are broken and they’re out of ideas. It’s not a profitable business model. And fixing that by further exploiting the writers and actors is bizarrely offensive,

I hope the strike lasts months and brings all of these greedy, capitalist pigs to their knees. Iger included.

If nothing else, Iger is following in Walt's footsteps- he was also an infamous union hater.

As for park attendance, I've heard conflicting things about WDW recently. It does still sound busy, but maybe not as much as previous summers. I actually noticed a slight decrease in the summer season when I still lived in Orlando and regularly went, while the "off" periods, like September and January, have been building up more momentum. Last summer might have been bigger, when people were starting to travel again after the pandemic and were willing to go at any point, but it sounds like this trend is picking back up. I think it's less that Disney is losing attendance, but that there's no such thing as a slow season for the parks and guests are going at different points of the year.

Thanks, Sotiris. That explains so much, although to be honest, I suspected as much for a long time. WDW Pro is a fantastic site.

People are not Happy about Disneyland Paris too. They have made things that make the Europeans think that they are not so valuable costumes as others.

YIkes, it sounds awful. I really don't like how Iger is handling all this. The news about the strike ongoing is even more disheartening. It's as simple as 1-2-3; offer better terms, strike ends, business goes on, everyone happy. Instead they choose to fight back by hiring AI consultants. I dislike all this fighting.

Chapek was far from perfect, but I think in some ways he was set up to fail. And that’s Iger’s fault. I guess the board shares that blame too for letting Iger hang around after stepping down. I think Iger was looking forward to retirement but the coming pandemic forced his hand and made him retire just a little bit earlier than he probably wanted. I actually think a lot of the company’s current problems are rooted in decisions Iger made before he stepped down. The company became too reliant on tent poles with lots of CGI and big budgets, only for audiences’ to experience fatigue with superhero movies and live action remakes. They were better off licensing their titles to third party streaming services than creating an ever hungry content pit with Disney+ (the creation of which also necessitated the purchase of 20th Century Fox and its much more vast library of titles). They’ve either overestimated or misunderstood the appeal of Star Wars again and again— how could they spend millions of dollars on a hotel only for it to close in a year??? 5 years post-Lasseter and both animation studios still feel at a crossroads (actually, this one may be more Chapek’s fault that Iger’s— his decision to feed new Pixar movies to Disney+ during the pandemic might have impacted Elemental’s initial disappointing box office returns).

It’s sort of fitting that Iger’s back because he has to reap what he sowed.

I don’t know if Disney as a company is no worse off than it was the previous three years, but my faith in Iger is seriously waning. Heck, at this point, I can’t help but think he’s letting things tank on purpose. :(

At this point I don't really care what happens with the company as long as they keep releasing their classic movies on 4K.

Its going to. I can feel it in my bones, just watching the trailers and the promotion for it. It doesnt have the vibe of a hit at all.
