Source: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat- ... man-writerIn rare venture into the world of competitive spec projects, Disney has come out on top of a bidding war to pick an untitled high concept pitch from John Whittington, the scribe known for his work on several Lego feature films. Veteran producer John Davis, whose recent credits include Dolemite is My Name and Game Night, is producing with his Davis Entertainment partner, John Fox.
Details are being kept in the vault but it is known that the high concept story is set in the world of movies. Disney elbowed out Warner Bros to capture the project, which will be live action and intended for theatrical release.
Disney isn’t known for being in the game for spec projects, as the studio has for the last decade made its priority on branded IP and remakes and sequels to its vast library. Most producers and lit agents had come to know to bypass the studio when it was sending out material into competitive waters. But this is a case of having its cake and eating it too as this original project may allow the studio to also dig deep in its warehouse of movies.

This is likely the long-awaited endgame to Disney’s Fox merger. Disney already owned the majority of the most popular characters, but now with Fox, Disney can finally begin production on the Julie Andrews Cinematic Universe. The first movie will pit the world’s most iconic nannies in a battle royale with Mary vs Maria: Civil War. Expect Nanny from Eloise at the Plaza to appear as a sort of anti-hero, ne’er do well with spin-off potential. Also, you’ll want to stick around until after the credits for the scene where Queen Clarisse Renaldi informs all the nannies that she’s assembling a team of maternal figures who will battle all the world’s neglectful fathers.
In all seriousness though, I had hoped after WiR2, they’d gotten this out of their system.

Oh hell’s yeah. After writing it, I thought how cool it would be if this movie either Irishman’d or Tarkin’d Mary Poppins and Maria von Trapp for at least a little cameo. They could probably sweeten Julie’s voice to sound more like it did in the 60’s, too, I guess?
Haha basically my entire interest in this movie rests on an improbable Julie Andrews cameo.
Ehh... while I’m here...

I’m glad you enjoyed the videos!
No, there’s never been a commercial release unfortunately. I’ve always assumed it’s because of rights issues and a perceived disinterest from the public— her variety show won an Emmy and was critically successful but did poorly in the ratings and was cancelled after the first season. It’s been mostly forgotten as it never had much of a life in syndication— only the Christmas special, which guest starred Jimmy Stewart, saw regular airings. But for a Julie Andrews fan, the show offers a plethora of content, most all of which has been uploaded to YouTube.

Oh dear, what a delight to watch (and a rare treat to see Julie as Eliza... sort of haha). Truly a star. Thanks for sharing!UmbrellaFish wrote:Julie Andrews, Mary Poppins, and Eliza Doolittle— https://youtu.be/5usVahlDjv0
As for the project, it's a bit exciting, but I'll remain skeptical until I see it. Disney's last attempt in Wifi Ralph left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

I imagine this would be sort of like Ready Player One in spots--like the scene when they drop into the The Shining scene of the twin girls, for example, and then wandered about the hotel.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ "Elizabeth Taylor"
Katy Perry ~ "bandaid"
Meghan Trainor ~ "Still Don't Care"
