HOLY SH*T YAY! My second favorite musical composer doing Cinderella!

Boo...it's a modern re-telling...

This is exciting because the music could be very, very gorgeous, and be one of, if not, the best scores the story ever had. But on the other hand, Cinderella works best and most beautifully set no later than the 19th century...

By the way thank you Sotiris for this thrilling news!!!

HEY I just thought of something...do you think what they mean is this will only be contemporary in some of what occurs and how they tell the story, not in setting?

EDIT: WELL...I discovered a longer article...and it sounds like it will be a modern setting...here it is:

Andrew Lloyd Webber Plans New 'Cinderella' Musical Project (Exclusive)

If you read the article, he says it will not be a fairy tale kingdom (boo) but not a recognizable modern place (yay?). It also says it will be "away from the world of magic and fairy godmothers." That's my freaking favorite part, so now I'm way less interested in this...and yet...there is some hope because it said it would follow "every piece of the story", so...STILL EXCITED!!!

I think Webber's melodies trump anything I've heard from Rodgers and Hammerstein. I think that's also an unpopular opinion, lol, so feel free to disagree. And don't get me wrong, I love and appreciate Rogers and Hammerstein's version. But I like Webber's music more so I wish he applied his music to a past-set fairy godmother-filled version. I'm still hopeful.

I love Webber's work (not so much the man himself) so this ought to be interesting if nothing else. We'll see if it ends up topping Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella.

He's not good to the women in his life. I can't respect him as a person for that.

Oh. He's like that? That is sad. :(

I realized last night, Rodgers and Hammerstein did Cinderella, Sondheim did Cinderella, and those are the two biggest musical theatre greats. Only one was left - Webber. Well, and Stephen Schwartz, but he's not as big as the other three.

I never realized that three of Broadway's greats have all adapted Cinderella in some shape or format. I love Schwartz's work so I wouldn't mind seeing his take on Cinderella either.

I only know Schwartz's Pippin! and Wicked. If he did Cinderella like Wicked I would love it.

Besides Pocahontas, Hunchback, and Enchanted (all of which he did with Menken) he is mainly known for The Prince of Egypt, which if I'm correct, is also coming to Broadway very soon. He was supposed to do songs for Mulan but because he was working on The Prince of Egypt for Dreamworks, he was fired. Only one of his songs from Mulan still exists today called "Written in Stone" which is one of my favorite deleted Disney songs.

Oh I forgot about Schwartz's Disney stuff. But he just did lyrics, right? I had never heard that deleted Mulan song before. It's pretty nice.

I think so, but I've seen interviews with Menken about his collab with Schwartz and how they had some friendly "clashes" (or friction which might be the more appropriate word) during songwriting because both worked as composers and lyricists. So it was difficult for both of them to stay in their respective lanes, so I think they sometimes ended up blending roles.
