Why was Kelly Marie Tran replaced ?
Was Raya and the Last Dragon poorly revived ?
Why is she no longer voicing Val Little ?

Re: Monsters at Work
I can't seem to find an answer online. If I had to guess, maybe she was cast in this show a while ago, when they hadn't announced that she replaced Cassie Steele in Raya, + she is busy either working on Raya publicity or maybe she's more high-profile now, getting more work due to Raya, and she doesn't have time to do Monsters at Work??

I missed that you had linked to a trailer! It looks really good!!!!!
Re: Monsters at Work
Monsters, Inc. is one of my favorite Pixar films, but for some reason I'm not too excited for this series. Maybe it's because Sully and Mike are not the protagonists this time, or because I don't find the main character's design too appealing. However, I agree with you blackcauldron85; it doesn't look bad.

Re: Monsters at Work
^I agree with you D82. While Monsters Inc. is among my top 5 Pixar films, I've had trouble getting excited for the series. I attribute this to several factors:
• It focuses on new characters instead of Mike and Sully.
• It's a TV series instead of a movie.
• It seems episodic in structure with no overarching narrative.
• It seems there will be no stakes to it making this entry inconsequential.
• It's produced by DTVA instead of Pixar.
• We get Roz's sister instead of Roz.
I do admit that it has high-quality animation and I'm sure it's going to be entertaining enough, but I feel it's a waste of the Monsters IP. I think the property is more popular than Disney gives it credit. The prequel alone earned almost $800 million at the box office. In my opinion, they should have made a movie sequel to it instead of a series and given the property the attention it deserves.

Re: Monsters at Work
I had forgotten this wasn't produced by Pixar like the rest of new series. You're right; that's another reason not to be too excited for it. I've always been against the idea of a sequel because, in my opinion, the story with Boo ends very well in the first film and she already served her purpose in it. However, I wouldn't mind it if it was something like this, as long as Mike and Sully were still the main leads. It would also need to have higher stakes, as you said.

Re: Monsters at Work
Highly anticipating this! Will be the first glimpse of what’s to come for PIXAR, and in a way WDAS, in terms of series. Which has up to now always been a DTV type of thing. The quality looks quite good, even if animated elsewhere.
I hope there’s a proper storyline running through it and not just a bunch of random plots. Not saying I want them to bring Boo back, but it shouldn’t feel like there are zero stakes either.

Re: Monsters at Work
Pixar was involved in the production of the series albeit in a small capacity.
Source: https://www.animationmagazine.net/strea ... sney-show/Q: The show’s CG animation looks fantastic. Can you tell us where it’s produced?
Bobs Gannaway: It’s being produced by Icon Animation (Elena of Avalor, T.O.T.S, The Rocketeer) in Vancouver. Working with them has been fantastic: We worked with them as partners who worked hard to continue to elevate the project. They were adding things in animation to continue to improve on the show. A lot of the pre-production, design, boarding and layout and writing is done by our team in L.A. and Burbank. Pixar was very helpful in the beginning. They provided us with a lot of the development art that had been created for the original films, so we could be inspired by things that their story didn’t ask for or understand how they got where they got. During the process we checked with them occasionally, and Bob Peterson (who also does the voice of Roz) consulted on scripts. The great thing was that we had this blessing from them from the start. They told us, “Here, go have fun with this world.” And most importantly, expand the world and don’t just repeat the movie. Do something new. [...] Pixar and Pete Docter have also been very supportive of this project.
Q: The show has a terrific 2D opening credit sequence. Can you talk about that a bit?
Bobs Gannaway: Geefwee Boedoe [Oscar-nominated director of the 2010 short Let’s Pollute], who did the original Monsters, Inc. opening 20 years ago, also created our show’s opening title. He did it using paper cutouts the old school way, and was so excited to do this sequence. If you sit through the entire credit roll at the end of each episode, you’ll get an audio treat as a reward! We want to entertain you as much as possible so we do a different version of the Monsters, Inc. theme on every credit roll, which is tied thematically to the show.

Re: Monsters at Work
Good to know they were somewhat involved and are supportive of this new studio. From the trailer it looks like they did a great job. Yeah, it's not Pixar movie level animation, but it looks great regardless.
Re: Monsters at Work
That's neat that they brought Geefwee Boedoe back, even though he hasn't worked at Disney since the early 2000s.
Bob Peterson's consultant role on "Monsters at Work" seems similar to Jeff Pidgeon being a creative consultant on "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command." However, it looks like the higher-ups at Pixar are a lot more supportive of this show than they were with "Buzz Lightyear" (which John Lasseter hated so much, he wouldn't even allow a Toy Story comic to reference it some years back).

Not digging the animation and the story is kinda slow. But overall it’s sort of enjoyable. Anyone else watch the first episodes yet?

Re: Monsters at Work
I just watched the first 2 episodes yesterday! I loved it! (Granted, I pretty much love everything, so I think my opinion isn't as solid as other people's! )
The intro is GREAT!
"Maybe with those horns, you could be a hat rack!" I thought that was super funny for some reason.
Val is cute. I LOVE Cutter- she is FUNNY!
I don't trust Duncan.
Awww, the human kid had a Pooh doll, and I *think* an Incredibles poster (maybe the other supes in Incredibles 2?
"Flat Rodney."- I thought that was super funny, too.
"Catastrophic, yet beautiful."
MIFT saved the day!! (and Mike!!)

Re: Monsters at Work
Really enjoyed the third episode. The show shines when it focuses on Mike & Sully. Although I did enjoy the new characters more in this episode.
The animation looked better in this episode as well? Or maybe that was just me.

Re: Monsters at Work
I think there's something incredibly weird with Mike that I can't quite point my finger (which is unnerving since even Sulley's fur looks amazing) but otherwise I'm enjoying it a lot.
