Agreed. And speaking of which, shouldn`t Frozen II be adapted into a Disney on Ice show? After all, it`s a full-length, theatrical sequel to Frozen and could`ve been adapted into that format.

It's a good thing Mirabel already looked like a 30 year old school teacher in the film, it'll make it easier for actors twice the character's age to play her.

That's to be expected given how Raya and the Last Dragon wasn't able to launch its own franchise. The real question is will Mirabel be joining? Encanto is doing really well on streaming and Chapek did call it a "Disney franchise", but there is a difference between a media franchise and a consumer products franchise. Is its popularity on streaming translating into merch sales? 'Cause it isn't for Moana.

Anyway, it's such a shame Raya and the Last Dragon wasn't a musical. Raya will be the only member in the line-up without an 'I Want' song. Even Merida has "Touch the Sky".

By the way, will Raya be getting a coronation ceremony? The article doesn't say, but it seems unlikely given Moana didn't get one.

They'll all join eventually. Even Anna & Elsa, maybe a decade from now when the merchandise isn't quite as booming (but still better than most of the others), which is why they always market them with the DP line simultaneously it seems.

I'm only surprised Raya wasn't inducted sooner. Raya and Encanto never really stood a chance at their own franchises because of the pandemic, if even Moana couldn't manage it in normal times.

I thought I'd "wear" this banner set again in honor of Raya officially joining the line and becoming a Disney Princess now. It would be nice if Raya got a Disney+ series (although of course I still hold out hope for a full-on sequel!)) of some kind where she's given a musical theme. That said, I think "Lead the Way" is a decent theme for her as much as the movie itself.

Moana was inducted a long time ago. She's now regularly featured with the other princesses on Disney Princess-branded products. She just didn't get a coronation ceremony and Raya most likely won't get one either. It seems Disney has moved away from that.

I thought that these things were interesting!

In the book, my favorite image is in chapter 3, about the merchandising. When Snow White came out, they made Snow White bleach and Snow White ammonia to clean the home. I found a picture of that on an old blog and our photo researcher was able to track down a usable image.

USPS Princesses stamps collection. That artwork had never been seen before...they were never printed. So, we were able to get copies of the art from archives.

The original animators, in the early years of Disney, were not fashion designers. It was male designers who needed a beautiful ball gown. They were probably – and this is just a supposition – looking at their wives’ fashion magazines at home and seeing images of Dior’s “New Look”, they would think that would make a beautiful gown for Cinderella. So, Cinderella’s gown looks like Dior’s “New Look” gown from the same time.

Sort of interesting there are so few Mirabel products considering Encanto was the #1 streaming film of the year (and there are so many Encanto products in comparison). Maybe if her design had been slightly less goofy...?

Aladdin 2019 really reignited and reinvigorated Jasmine. And I'm glad they're actually go all out in merchandising for Tiana. I was scared they might do the sort of thing they did with Strange World, as far as giving her Disney+ and Splash Mountain content, but not betting on her in merchandise. Glad that's not the case. Hopefully Tiana reignites some interest in TP&TF, too. Sort of looks to me like both Elsa and Aurora have fallen off a little bit--with Frozen so high on the other list, perhaps it's because people get sets that include both the sisters (and perhaps Olaf as well) over solo character products? Poor Mulan. The people who made that stinker of a remake should be giving Disney backpay for the damage they did to the property.

If anyone's surprised about Snow White's meteoric rise, I heard that official Snow White products are selling like hotcakes lately because people are afraid Disney is going to stop producing merch for the property soon. All of the controversies surrounding the film and the fact Disney easily caves to critics nowadays have gotten people spooked!
