The Little Mermaid II Different Animation on S.E DVD
The Little Mermaid II Different Animation on S.E DVD
Hi guys, can you help me?
I heard that when TLM 2 was released on its Special Edition DVD in 2008, it had some redrawn pieces of animation and character faces. I kept googling it, hoping I would find some info, but I have yet to find anything. Can anyone tell me which are the differences?

I’ve always been curious why they did that. Not that I mind, but they usually didn’t care if their DisneyToon sequels looked hideous… And why do it for this one and not some of the others, too?

WOW!!! How did no one notice this before? Wonder if the Blu-ray has this too?

They did. It's in a TLM2 thread somewhere.Mickeyfan1990 wrote:How did no one notice this before?

I always wondered how that looked like in motion. Here in Belgium they don't have the SE DVD so we only have that hideous scene of the Ariel transformation and I couldn't find anything on youtube.
The most notable difference was Adella: she was 'heavy' in the original TLM II, to look like herself in TLM series version, but when they did the re-release, they made her thin so she would look like her version in TLM III.
It was indeed in the TLM2 SE thread.

These comparison shots convinced me to go ahead and buy the Blu-ray as well. I only have the original 2000 DVD and VHS releases of the movie, where the characters are drawn so off model. The differences are staggering, especially in Ariel's case.

I think it is only in these 3 shots, though.Sicoe Vlad wrote:These comparison shots convinced me to go ahead and buy the Blu-ray as well. The differences are massive, but I agree, why did they bother in the first place ? Has that ever been addressed before ?

From what I understood, the changes were made in 2008, for the Special Edition DVD release, to make the characters look like in Ariel's Beginning. I'm still baffled they did not change Ariel's face at the end of For A Moment, when she has the huge giraffe neck.
