The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Jay Wolpert, co-screenwriter of the 2003 Disney film "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," has passed away at the age of 79 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
While perhaps best known as the first producer of the current incarnation of "The Price is Right" from its premiere in 1972 to 1978, Wolpert pivoted to a screenwriting career later in life, writing the screenplay for the 2002 Touchstone Pictures adaptation of "The Count of Monte Cristo" and the following year's "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl."
Wolpert also acted in the 1995 Touchstone Pictures film "Father of the Bride Part II" as Dr. Brooks, the OB-GYN who tells Diane Keaton's character that she is pregnant.

Re: RIP Jay Wolpert ("Pirates of the Caribbean" Screenwriter
I can't say I know much about him, but POtC: Curse of the Black Pearl is one of the studio's best live-action films of all time, imo, and helped to birth a massive franchise (none of the following films could match the first one's brilliance entirely even if I do enjoy Dead Man's Chest and Dead Man Tell No Tales very much). And he played a part in that. Rest in peace.
