I would still like though an adaptation of the Sister Act musical.

Well, an adaptation of the Broadway musical would be much more preferable to me than a remake. I would've been more on board with the live-action versions of Beauty and the Beast or Aladdin, for example, too had they been adaptations of the musicals.

Goldberg will soon reprise her role as lounge singer-turned-nun-whisperer Deloris Van Cartier in “Sister Act 3” for Disney Plus, after years of back and forth between Goldberg and studio over the premise for the sequel. She and Tyler Perry are co-producing the film, with “Evil Eye” author Madhuri Shekar writing the screenplay. “Marc Shaiman [the franchise’s composer] is just waiting,” Goldberg teases. “The nuns are all waiting. Maybe there’s gonna be some of the kids [from ‘Sister Act 2’]. Who can say?”

Q: I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask for a morsel about working with Whoopi on Sister Act 3.

Tyler Perry: The script is being written, and I am the producer on it — not directing. We brought on an incredible director [Tim Federle] and Whoopi’s really excited. I think that this is just what the country needs. We need that feel-good moment in the movies where you go, “Oh my God, I left there singing.” That’s my hope.

Q: Whoopi Goldberg announced recently that she’s working on a third film of “Sister Act,” and she’d love for you to star in it alongside Lizzo and Nicki Minaj. What was your reaction to that and how do we make this happen?

Keke Palmer: My reaction was, “Whoopi, where do I sign on the dotted line? Because Whoopi, I’m ready. I’m ready for whatever that you need from me.” OK, Whoopi is an EGOT winner. Whoopi had her own one-woman show. Whoopi hosted the Oscars. Whoopi is everything! So for her to mention me for the “Sister Act,” I mean, I’m here, I’m there for whatever that needs to be done, just call me up. It was awesome. And I’m here for Lizzo and the Nicki Minaj of it all as well.
