The thing is this. People, esp ones who grew up with the orignial trilogy, love them. They were unlike anything else at the time and created such a phenomenom that nothing else could ever live up to it.
The masses need to keep their expectations in check this time. It may be an impossible task but everyone should take this film on its own merits.
It may not feel exactly like the original but nothing will, that's what makes it so special. It will have CGI in it... it's the 21st century and that is how movies are made now. Go with the flow and enjoy yourselves! I love the anticipation leading up to the next film. I love the hype surrounding it, the craziness, the long lines. It is part of the experience!
I look at it this way, you can either ignore the franchise and move on, enjoy each film for what it is, or be a typical disgruntled internet fanboy who will still watch the films, buy the stuff, but sit around crying and complaining about it the whole time. I think that life's too short for that but to each their own.

Confirming what we already knew, its now been made official.

Star Wars 2015 Release Date May Not Happen With J.J. Abrams
Now that we’ve had a few days to come down off of the contact high from the news that Star Trek helmer J.J. Abrams is taking over Star Wars: Episode VII, it’s time to start asking – and possibly answering – a few major questions. Who, from the original Star Wars movies, might return to continue the series? What storyline will Abrams attempt to follow as he sets up a fresh trilogy? And when might we actually see this film in theaters? At first, we thought 2015 was the target date. Now, we’re not so sure.
No date was specified in the eventual press release that confirmed Abrams’ participation. And The Hollywood Reporter quoted sources saying that the director “has not committed to that release date” and is reserving the right to push that date back if his production schedule demands it. If you’ll recall, Abrams had to pull similar rank with Paramount when they pushed to get the Star Trek sequel into theaters in Summer 2012. Abrams balked, and now we’re getting what’s sure to be a higher quality sequel in theaters this May.
It goes without saying that we’d prefer Abrams to take his time and get Star Wars off on the right foot rather than rushing his schedule to hit a predetermined release date. We’ve waited this long for a great Star Wars movie. Let’s give Abrams his time to develop the right sequel, so that we’re not reaching “prequel-trilogy” levels of fan bitching. Also, between Marvel’s The Avengers 2, Pirates of the Caribbean 5, a possible Justice League movie and The Fantastic Four reboot, 2015 isn’t craving another blockbuster, so if our journey back to a galaxy far, far away takes longer than we thought, I’m sure the results will be worth the wait.

Given that they haven't even really started yet, I always thought it was ridiculous to expect to have it done and out by 2015. Unless they had started long before the acquisition. Even if they had a basic outline in place, it wouldn't have been enough, I'm talking having the script nearly finished and characters already cast.
Edit: just saw this. The previously announced 3D releases of episodes II and III have been cancelled.

Edit: Ok, the 3D releases are not canceled, just delayed.

I learned of this decision just now from Lucasfilm‘s promotional partners who are telling me the studio now owned by Disney wants to focus only on “rebooting the franchise” with three new Star Wars films. This surprising decision follows the underwhelming box office performance of EpisodeI: The Phantom Menace re-released in 3D in February 2012.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/28/ ... -cancelledStarWars.com has offered up an official statement on Deadline's story, saying that "Lucasfilm has decided to postpone this fall's scheduled release of Star Wars Episodes II and III in 3D. Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy, we will now focus 100 percent of our efforts on Star Wars: Episode VII in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans. We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date."

http://www.tgdaily.com/games-and-entert ... sbXSG5s.99Earlier this week we learned that Disney, the new owners of LucasFilm, and thus the Star Wars franchise, are working on some films set in the Star Wars universe which will not directly tie into the two existing trilogies. Meaning, the protagonists will not be Skywalkers.
Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney confirmed the news on Tuesday, telling CNBC, "I can confirm to you today that in fact we are working on a few standalone films, Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on film derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga. We still plan to make Star Wars 7, 8, and 9 roughly over a six-year period of time, starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period too."
This fits the successful franchise formula developed by Marvel studios, also owned by Disney, for their super hero films. A central line (The Avengers) and a bunch of side-cannon films which allow each major character in the key films to shine on their own, while maintaining a story-world that connects each film into a single universe. I’m perpetually surprised that Marvel can pull this off so well while every film is led by a different director who might have his own ideas about where the film, and story-world should go.

YEAH! Gottta shake those udders baby! Milk MILK MILK.
The stand alone they have in mind is Yoda from another source I read. Other two they are potentially thinking of is a Boba Fett one and a Jabba the Hutt one.
No it wouldn't. Do you know anything concerning Star Wars?DisneyJedi wrote:Well, is there any chance of Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie and the droids appearing or at least being mentioned? That would be the ultimate blasphemy of Star Wars if they didn't.

So let me get this straight, The new trilogy will have nothing to do with the Skywalkers or is this a stand alone movie that won't have anything to do with the two existing trilogy.

The latter. More of spin-off movie that would focus on a certain iconic side character like Yoda, Jabba, or Boba Fett.disneyboy20022 wrote:So let me get this straight, The new trilogy will have nothing to do with the Skywalkers or is this a stand alone movie that won't have anything to do with the two existing trilogy.
Think Wolverine: Origins. That kind of movie.
The new trilogy you're thinking of WILL have Luke etc in it.

Some Star Trek fans might not be happy with this possible theory

Yes. The video shows that one of hosts tell how they think a week or two before Star Trek comes out, Disney will announce Star Wars Episode 7 to steal Star Treks thunderPixarFan2006 wrote:Star TREK?

In this week's news, The Rock wants to be in Star Wars Episode VII.

AND....I just realized that if everything pans out - 2015 is going to bring Disney The Avengers Sequel, Pirates 5, and Star Wars Episode VII. Hope they spread them out to maximize profits. Come on marketing team - pick actual good dates for these releases.

Re: Breaking: Disney Acquires Lucasfilm
So, Clone Wars has been cancelled with only two arcs of Season 6 being set for some vague release. Disney has suspended production on 1313 and the game that would lead up to Battlefront 3. Dark Horse is set to loose the Star Wars license as it lapses back to Marvel and they focus on just new trilogy era content.
Remember when Bob Iger was "Oh we'll take a laissez-faire approach and let Pixar and Marvel do whatever"? And don't bring up the Cars franchise because John Lasseter wanted to milk that cow.

The way JJ keeps talking in interviews, I really don't think that SW Ep 7 will be done by 2015. They say they don't even have a script yet!

Re: Breaking: Disney Acquires Lucasfilm
I would rather it be longer if it meant a more well thought out script and not a rushed together script. However I could see one of these Stand Alone Star Wars films that are being talked about in 2015, such as Yoda and Han Solo. Not sure what my opinion on them is at the moment. Yoda rocks so that would be cool I think. Yoda rocksMaerj wrote:The way JJ keeps talking in interviews, I really don't think that SW Ep 7 will be done by 2015. They probably do. Or not. I dunno. It can be compared to the situation with North Korea.Maerj wrote:The way JJ keeps talking in interviews, I really don't think that SW Ep 7 will be done by 2015. They say they don't even have a script yet!
