It's a Trope. They won't say his name out loud but like Adam from Beauty and the Beast they'll announce it in a book or a manual.Disney Duster wrote:What do you mean "all there in the manual"?Kraken Guard wrote:That IS kinda my assumption about the whole name. Still...
It'll be one of those 'All there in the Manual'... Things.
Prince Charming's name is Henry?

I guess it was mentioned in a game called 'The D Show' that his name was Adam? As far as books go, I've no idea.Disney Duster wrote:Oh. Well I know Adam's name was mentioned in a video game, was it ever actually mentioned in a book?
And yes, it was something I had to wiki-- Even though I know peeps say that Wiki's aren't always entirely reliable...
HUH! Nobody ever tries to mass-theorize what the Horned King's real name is. It must be a prince... Thing...

It's claimed that he was referred to as Adam in Disney A to Z: The Official Encyclopedia by Dave Smith. However, that's not true.Disney Duster wrote:Oh. Well, I know Adam's name was mentioned in a video game; was it ever actually mentioned in a book?
Source: https://d23.com/d23-presents-ask-dave-a ... ry-4-2013/Q: Why do people credit your book (Disney A to Z: The Official Encyclopedia) as proof that in Beauty and the Beast, the Beast’s real name is Prince Adam? I don’t see that reference anywhere in your book.
Dave Smith: If people credit Disney A to Z, they are incorrect.
Producer Don Hahn noted that sometimes the Beast is referred to as Vincent which he believes originated because of the Latin inscription on the stain class window in the prologue of the film which reads "Vincit qui se vincit" which means "He conquers, who conquers himself".
Paige O'Hara in an interview confirmed that the Beast's name is Adam.
Source: https://youtu.be/dafZc5xGLNE?t=3m48sQ: I've heard a lot of rumors about the Beast's real name. Is there any real name to the Prince?
Paige O'Hara: Disney will always deny it. What was the rumor you heard and I'll tell you if that's the one.
Q: I've heard it was Adam.
Paige O'Hara: Yes. Only the animators and the people at Disney knew that.
Here's a list of official instances that refer to the human form of the Beast as Adam.

The Beast's human name being Adam is actually quite appropriate since 'adam' is Hebrew for either 'man' or 'soil/earth' (depending on the source; religious connotations are obvious either way). In that regard, it works really well for the character, since it symbolizes his return to humanity. It doesn't sound very French though, so why not call him both: Adam Vincent? The combination of those two gives off a very regal impression.
Prince Charming's real name being Henri... Official or not, I really like it (it's kind of like finding out that Sex and the City's Mr. Big's is called John James Preston). And with all the other French words heard throughout the film, it too confirms (or at least, limits) Cinderella's setting to be either Belgium or Luxembourg.
And that leaves only Snow White's Prince. I'm fine with Ferdinand, even though it may be a result of a misquote. Or how about Franz?
Now we just need Disney to make it official.

Why not France?Mooky wrote:And with all the other French words heard throughout the film, it too confirms (or at least, limits) Cinderella's setting to be either Belgium or Luxembourg.
It's a result of a rather stupid misinterpretation of a speech.Mooky wrote:I'm fine with Ferdinand, even though it may be a result of a misquote.
The narrator in the beginning says the story's set in "a tiny kingdom", which automatically rules out France, at least when compared to the size of Belgium and Luxembourg. But given the emphasis on 'tiny', I'd bet my money on Luxembourg.Sotiris wrote:Why not France?
Yep, that's what I meant. It's still an apt name for a German prince.Sotiris wrote:It's a result of a rather stupid misinterpretation of a speech.

Interesting. I don't recall that. It's been a long time since I've watched the movie. How about Monaco then?Mooky wrote:The narrator in the beginning says the story's set in "a tiny kingdom", which automatically rules out France, at least when compared to the size of Belgium and Luxembourg. Hmm, I've never really thought about it, but that's actually a really good suggestion. Especially since Grace Kelly was practically a real life Cinderella, both in looks/grace and life events. Too bad Grace Kelly's film debut and stardom came a couple of years after Cinderella was released; if it was otherwise, I'd be inclined to think she inspired the character.
But like I said, Monaco is a good guess too. Or, given Hollywood's love for fictional countries (Genovia, Latveria ), maybe it was Kingdom of Monburg or Kingdom of Luxaco.

Even on at the Royal Guest Rooms they say his name is Charming.
Mooky, way to miss what I said in the Cinderella Discussion:
Mooky, way to miss what I said in the Cinderella Discussion:
Oh, I forgot to mention something cool about Cinderella. Marc Davis, who animated her more in her sophisticated princess form, based her partly on Grace Kelly, a famous Hithcockian actress who was of high social class and, after meeting Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, married him. That's right. She became a princess just like Cinderella, but she married him in 1956, years after Cinderella came out in 1950! So those animators really knew there stuff, even kind of predicting what people would do and who they would be! It's like Marc Davis knew Grace Kelly was perfect for Cinderella and that she'd someday marry a prince! So in a way Cinderella's story is real!

Sorry, I don't follow all the discussions so I must have missed it. Do you have a source for that? I can't find anything online about it. Not to mention, Cinderella's design would have to have been finished by at least 1948 in order to start with the animation and meet the March 1950 deadline. Grace Kelly's first TV appearance was a tiny role in a 1948 show, and she would not appear on a small screen again for another two years after that. That's why I find that hard to believe.Disney Duster wrote:Mooky, way to miss what I said in the Cinderella Discussion:Oh, I forgot to mention something cool about Cinderella. I think Cinderella takes place in Belgium because:
1. It's tiny
2. It's still a kingdom
3. The King, Prince, and noble males resemble King Leopold I and King Leopold II of Belgium and what they wore
4. France is too big, and the narrator said a "tiny kingdom."
5. Luxembourg is a Grand Duchy, but the Grand Duke could be from there, and those two countries are close to each other.
6. Monaco is a principality, not a kingdom.
7. The royal page said the king was an "Imperial Majesty," and Belgium was a colonial empire in addition to being a kingdom.

It's okay, but if you remember it, please post it somewhere here, I'd really like to know more.Disney Duster wrote:The person who told me says they can't remember if an animator said it or a book said it, so I may be wrong.

They all seem to be typical normal male names. Adam, Henry, Eric, Phillip. Expect for those who become a Prince like Aladdin.Mooky wrote: And that leaves only Snow White's Prince. I'm fine with Ferdinand, even though it may be a result of a misquote. Or how about Franz?
So Mark, Benjamin, Robert, Richard, Peter, Gary, Bruce- names like that would be a good guess.

Re: Prince Charming's name is Henry?
In the upcoming Disney Prince book Prince of Glass & Midnight, Prince Charming's name is August and the name of his kingdom is Charmant.
