Ha, my biggest complaint is that they didn't make a whole new flavor and instead we got a crappy generic apple pie thing with a real lame attempt at making it relevant with a really lame name!
The weird thing is I swear I heard about a new pro gay marriage ice cream flavor a loooong time ago. Is it this one and they just finally made it now or was it something else?

"Chubby Hubby" was renamed "Hubby Hubby" for a brief period of time. And the apple pie one is exclusive to England. There's no apple pie ice cream available for purchase in America.Disney Duster wrote:Ha, my biggest complaint is that they didn't make a whole new flavor and instead we got a crappy generic apple pie thing with a real lame attempt at making it relevant with a really lame name!

Thank you, that's exactly what it was! Once again they just re-labeled ice cream though. It doesn't make sense. If they can make brand new flavors for late night talk or fake news show hosts they can make a new flavor for gay marriage!
I don't care if we don't the apple pie one here in America, it's lame!

Amendment 1 (which defines marriage as exclusively between a man and a woman) was voted through in NC today, with 57% For and 43% Against.
I can’t say I’m surprised. The entire time, I was thinking, “If it can happen in California…” And NC is part of the Bible Belt. So, not surprised, and not discouraged either. Gay marriage will be legal in the US eventually, once the federal government stops allowing states to vote on the issue (just like with slavery).

This vote was very disheartening for me. I live in Arkansas, where gay marriage is also banned by the State Constitution. State Constitutions are hard to change. A vote like this can't just be undone by a future vote. It will have to come undone through strong federal pressure, i.e. a Supreme Court decision. And as long as we have President "I'm Still Evolving" Obama and the most fascist right-wing court in the history of this country, that ain't happening anytime soon.
As a gay American, it sickens me that so many in our country would deny us our basic human rights. We live in a country where corporations are considered people and LGBT people aren't. It's... maddening.

I'm a weird person obviously because I love insulting people I don't have to interface with but I won't say anything bad about a state like NC. I mean, to me 43% is just enough to say there are too many smart people living in NC. Maybe it's the same in Arkansas. It's just the religious community, again, that needs to receive further education on how RELIGION DOES NOT BELONG IN GOVERNMENT!!

Oh, believe me, there are a LOT of smart young people in the South. A lot. Tolerant, cool, mostly poor young people. We can't get out and escape because of the whole being poor thing. But believe me, most of us want nothing more than to get the hell out of these places.
Churches around here are ridiculous. There are probably two or three churches every square mile where I live: I could throw a rock down the street and hit a fucking church.
Obviously that's the big problem here: these churches exert so much POLITICAL pressure on their congregations. I mean, remember Prop 8? The only reason it passed was because the LDS and Black churches teamed up. It makes me think of the great George Carlin, I'm paraphrasing but he said something to the effect of "If these motherfuckers want to be so active in the politics in this country TAX THEM! Make them pay the entrance fee like everybody else!"
I, Mr. Faggoty Homo McQueerface, have to pay taxes. All of my LGBT friends have to pay taxes. We have NO civil rights where we live. None. We don't even have an anti-discrimination bill. So I could technically be fired if were working somewhere, just for being gay. I can't adopt a child (not that I want to, but still) and it's illegal for me to get married, or even have a civil partnership. Yet the churches that worked so hard to deny me my civil rights don't have to pay a fucking DIME. That pisses me off.
Sorry for all the cursing.

Obama has finally "evolved" to accept SSM. Insert Pokemon joke here.
While it's sad (but not suprising given it's Southern location) SC passed One, keep in mind that two other states this year have passed SSM legislation, the Colorado Civil Unions bill could still pass, Prop 8 was defeated again in a District Court, NH Republicans totally failed to repeal that state's SSM law, other states like Maine are working towards legalization, and now the movement has a Presidential endorsement. Long-term goals will likely be met, no matter what one, backwards region of the USA thinks.

I hope so.
It's about time the whole of The USA (not to mention the whole World, but that's less likely) acknowledged that there is nothing wrong with two people who have the same sort of genitals, committing to each other.

I think Obama's support is a well planned tactic to stay in office. And it might just work. Honestly, I voted for him, but I am unsure if I will again. So far leaning towards yes, because honestly, the Republican Presidential candidates the last 10+ years have either been a bit too moronic or a whole lotta fake to me. Obama was the far lesser of two evils the last go around, IMO. I didn't mind McCain so much, but Palin just really grinded my gears. I find her to this day, very fake.
I think with Obama, first killing off the whole "don't ask, don't tell" was fantastic. But I do think it was kinda a precursor to this whole sudden support of gay marriage, right before election time. I can't help but think of him doing a little Dick Dastardly laugh.
I am an Independent. Never been much for going all in to either side. Also admit I like the Libertarians, but sadly the media kills them off before they ever get the chance by putting ALL focus on just two parties. So sad.
Can't say I blame Obama if this was some sort of masterplan. But then the Republicans should stop getting their panties in a bunch. There ARE Republicans who SUPPORT gay marriage....how about putting them at the forefront to dispel myths that all are so hell bent against it. Don't blame Obama for coming up with the idea first It might just be the thing he needs to stay in office another 4.

But Obama DIDN'T repeal DADT. He dragged his feet and insisted Congress repeal it. He could have issued an Executive Order, a stop-loss, but he didn't. In fact, he didn't even seem to give two-shits about DADT until the gay-rights groups starting putting pressure on him.
And then, like I said, it was congress, specifically Joe Lieberman, who really got DADT repealed. Not Obama. He didn't lift a finger. And this whole swing today of his is just a political move. He had pissed the gays off when he distanced himself from Biden's comments. Amazing that it only took a few days for him to 'evolve' to the position that gay marriage is a State's Rights issue. (Which is what he said. He didn't come out fully FOR gay marriage. It was a weak, centrist ploy. Just like every other policy of his.)
I certainly won't be voting for this man. He's as phony and as fascist as george w., only he has a little D under his name instead of an R.
There are plenty of reasons besides his flip-flopping on gay marriage not to support him. How about the fact that he hasn't closed Guantanamo bay? Or put an end to the torture of detainees? Or that fact that he signed the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) which gives the POTUS the power to order the assassination of any person he wants, with no trial? (INCLUDING AMERICANS CITIZENS!) Or his commitment to keep us in Afghanistan until 2024? Or the fact that he started a war with Libya? Or the fact that he extended the bush tax-cuts for the richest 1%?
That this president is called a socialist or a liberal is baffling. He's every bit as right-wing as george w. bush!

Personally, I felt the exact opposite--I felt Obama's support for gay marriage might end up keeping him from re-election.
And even if Obama isn't perfect--what is the alternative? Rick Santorum? *puke*

No, Mitt Romney, who's bad in a different way.Disney's Divinity wrote:And even if Obama isn't perfect--what is the alternative? Rick Santorum? *puke*
They're are plenty of reasons to be justifyably disapointed with Obama, but does anyone really think Romney will be better than him on any of the issues Ratigan complained about? His response to today's news was no to SSM, but states can choose domestic partnership laws if they like. That's not an improvement.
The real enemy is the crappy two-party system, but until that gets changed (which may be never), every sane person should stick to Obama, even if he's anything but the ideal candidate. You'll never convince me he'd be worse than Romney.
