What a life! Loved her in Mary Poppins, and she also played a small but super delightful part in my favorite rom-com, While You Were Sleeping. Rest in piece, Glynis Johns.

RIP to a true legend. The first role I can think of for Glynis Johns besides Mary Poppins (or her other Disney role, The Sword and the Rose) was her playing Diane's mother on Cheers, which I believe was initially offered to Lucille Ball who turned it down despite being a fan. She was quite good there, as always.

Glynis also introduced the Sondheim standard Send In The Clowns in the original Broadway production of A Little Night Music In 1973.

So, do you guys think we'll be seeing this movie get a physical 4K UHD Blu-ray release any time this year? Because I think it'd practically be a crime not to, given this year marks the film's 60th anniversary.

The Three Lives of Thomasina (Karen Dotrice and Susan Hampshire)

The Moon-Spinners (Hayley Mills)

Mary Poppins (a late August release)

Emil and the Detectives (the 1964 Christmas release)

I’ve seen them all but Thomasina (and Poppins, of course) is the only one I have on DVD. I absolutely love that film.

I never saw any of these in a theater, except for Poppins in various rereleases (1973 and 1980).
The rest I saw on the Disney Sunday night series, usually in 2 parts, and the opening credits missing and other edits made for time purposes.

I find it interesting that back in the day films seemed to be released without connection to holidays or summer vacation. For example, one would think Mary Poppins would have made the perfect Christmas or early summer release, yet it was released at the tail end of summer with kids and families almost ready to head back to school. The animated classics especially seem to have no rhyme or reason as to their release dates....Any thoughts??

I also found it interesting that much of the Poppins profits were used to finance the construction of Walt Disney World which opened 7 years later in 1971.

I honestly thought it was a made up word, like heffalumps or supercalifragilisticexpialidocius itself... But I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to rectify the issue now, seeing how the word in question has such offensive origins. I'll always appreciate these efforts to educate people/caution the viewers rather than cutting the lines and scenes altogether.
