I saw that on Amazon recently and I was interested in it. What exactly are the contents of the book?

Its a bio of several menacing characters...They are all reminiscing about evil mischief in past life...

Oh my godness! I used to play with these as a kid. :)
I have Peter Pan, Hook, Smee (I think, I am not sure), the crocodile and some pirates.

The ship itself is custom made by myself...mainly because the back part where the ship opens up was delivered to me with 2 left pieces instead of a left and right...I cut the plastic and flipped one of the sides to make a right..It was painstakingly hard to assemble...but here she is ;-)

Image I must admit I'm a bit dissapointed in this volume...as expected the only thing real interesting is Bill Tytla

Why? Is it that you're not so crazy about the other included animators or that the animation chosen for their flipbooks isn't the most inspiring?

I think if I had to rate them by perceived importance it'd be:

1. Vladimir Tytla (no contest)
2. Freddie Moore and Art Babbitt
3. Grim Natwick and Norman Ferguson
4. Hamilton Luske (no longer as influential once he transitioned to direction)
5. John Sibley and Hal King (admittedly I know very little about these two - compared to the others they are the ones that seem to get talked about the least)

It is difficult to place Ub Iwerks anywhere on the scale as his animation is vastly different to the others'. He mostly belonged to the rubber-hose style and eventually got into in special effects (he is always credited for "Special Processes" on later Disney films.)

The animation chosen could have been more carefully selected. I must admit out of these "nine more old men" I personally rank Tytla as the only one of real significance..in the way of feature animation any way. Still at least the art is once again available to the public, that's something!

Yes! I've got that one too. I miss the days of elaborate board games, like the Disneyland game...

I love the Hidden Art books. I only have the first two right now but I plan on getting the other two as well eventually. I initially bought them for David Hall's conceptual work because I loved the material he made for Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan (and I still wish the final product of Peter Pan reflected his take in the 1940s), but I was introduced to so many other wonderful artists I didn't know about, mainly Bianca Majolie. Wish she was a better known name in the industry. Ironically enough, as much as I like the art of Gustaf Tenggren, his profile in the books really turned me off the person himself.

I hear what your saying...Tenggren was an interesting read. I hope we will see further additions to this great series right to the present day
