Thanks for all that info Escapay! :)

With that, we have the press release for The Lion King Signature Edition courtesy of DVD Newsflash:

"The Lion King” Roars to Its Rightful Place in the Walt Disney Signature Collection on Digital Aug. 15 and on Blu-ray™ Aug. 29

Two Ways to Experience the Movie! Plus New Bonus Including Never-Before-Seen Recording Sessions, Song Selections and More!

BURBANK, Calif. (July 16 2017) — It was announced today at D23 Expo that in August, one of the biggest animated films in history—“The Lion King”—joins the highly celebrated Walt Disney Signature Collection. The coming-of-age masterpiece, filled with humor and heart, breathtaking animation and soul-stirring Academy Award®–winning music (1994: Best Original Score and Best Original Song, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”), arrives on Digital on Aug. 15 and on Blu-ray and DVD on Aug. 29.

Audiences will fall in love all over again with the treasured classic, and a new generation of fans will laugh with Timon and Pumbaa, cry with Simba and Mufasa, burst into song, and find their place in the “Circle of Life.” The Walt Disney Signature Collection release includes over three hours of classic bonus material and exclusive, brand new features inviting viewers to sing along with the film’s award-winning music, observe recording sessions, step inside the story room, witness the evolution of a villain, and join Nathan Lane (voice of Timon) and Matthew Broderick (voice of Adult Simba) for an extended conversation regarding the legacy of “The Lion King.”

“The Lion King” follows the adventures of Simba, a feisty lion cub who cannot wait to be king, as he searches for his destiny in the great “Circle of Life.” The film earned a Golden Globe® for Best Motion Picture—Comedy or Musical and inspired a Tony Award®-winning Broadway musical that is currently the third longest-running musical in Broadway history. In 2019, a reimagined live-action film, helmed by Jon Favreau, will delight audiences with the thrilling retelling of the original tale utilizing groundbreaking technological advances—as only Disney can do.

“The Lion King” is the fifth title to join the Walt Disney Signature Collection, which includes groundbreaking films created or inspired by the imagination and legacy of Walt Disney, featuring timeless stories and characters that have touched generations. Hmmm, seems like this release will have several new bonus features, which is good.

Btw, I wasn't particularly impressed with the bonus features on the 75th Anniversary Edition of Bambi. The only one worth mentioning was the Studio Stories, which was informative. The rest of them were just contemporary and silly fluff.

Do the special features include any of the Virtual Vault bonus features from the diamond edition? I'm interested to see if Disney will bring those back.

The next title in the collection will be Fantasia as it's getting a storybook tie-in on January 05, 2018.

I kind of like the LK steelbook cover, even if it's clipart. Reminds me of the Sleeping Beauty cover with Maleficent and Aurora back-to-back. I hope they do something similar with The Little Mermaid whenever it's released again (if it's a part of this line?).

How does a book release prove anything about a blu ray release, I mean I know Disney has a history of doing that but that doesn't mean anything necessarily. If I remember there was going to be a new book of Beauty and the Beast that released last Feb. When that was announced, everyone assumed it would come out in Feb. But that didn't happen, it was released much earlier.

Also, Fantasia is in the same boat as Alice and Dumbo as films that have been announced as part of the Platinum/Diamond/whatever lineup but it never happens. (yes I know it says so on the official website but this has happened before). Besides, pretty sure they release Fantasia on the '0 years.

All I'm saying is that I'm skeptical, I'd expect Lady and the Tramp to come after Lion King.

Hi!

I'm curious about this new Lion King release, specially for checking if this mistake from the previous release has been fixed:

I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way.

I'd hope so, although if I'm not mistaken, all of the Signature releases so far have used the same mastering as their Diamond Edition releases.

I saw the movie at my local AMC a couple weeks ago and the clouds weren't there. Same as the digital copy I downloaded on the 15th.
Man has a dream
And that's the start
He follows his dream
With mind and heart
And when it becomes a reality
It's a dream come true
For you and me!

If they've been restored for digital then hopefully they'll be back for the blu-ray disc as well. Honestly, I almost wasn't expecting Disney to fix this with their recent track record. I suppose a new Cinderella restoration is still unlikely though.

I've heard from some people they know insiders who said Disney knows they messed up Cinderella's restoration and will do a new, correct one. I know for a fact Don Hahn is aware of it, but if he got them to do a new one or not, I don't know.

Well if the day ever comes that Disney announces a Cinderella Signature Edition, we need to notify Don at once.

That being said, we have our first review for The Lion King Signature Edition:

Has anyone's DMA updated the Lion King bonus features? Mine still only shows three. Beauty and the Beast and Pocahontas both refreshed once new digital copies were released. Does anyone know what to expect with TLK?
