Blu- ray discs are massive, there should be plenty of space on there to hold 3 versions without being too compressed, unlike the DVD format when they did the last release.

they dont need to have 3 disc releases for the amount of content they likely put on it. 2 should be enough.

It does feel a little early but the DVD industry has always been evil like this. It feels like the BatB PE came out only yesterday.

As to whether or not I will get the new version it really depends. I'm used to watching the Special Edition so much that the fact that there's some different animation never bothered me. Havent watched it as much as TLK.

Plus my Beauty and the Beast VHS has probably worn into nothingness by now so I have no way to see the difference in animation.

I assumed he meant its too early to be making a thread about it, not the release itself. *shrug*

Def getting this release. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite of all Disney classics. Missed it the first time being in grade 5 and being too old for such kiddish things as a princess move. The only problem is i don't think i can wait to have it on dvd. Does anyone think i should get the old edition just till the new bluray comes out.

Yeah, I'd especially love to see the original extended Prologue (before it was cut down to stained glass windows and a voiceover), along with more information about the first non-musical treatment they were doing.

I probably should've specified that if it were up to me for the DVD release (if they do have a simultaneous DVD release, which I believe they will), I'd prefer it be multi-disc akin to the Close Encounters of the Third Kind that MickeyMouseboy mentioned.

For Blu-Ray, I'm all for having all 3 versions on one disc without being too compressed. :D Of course, I'd like for them to actually be three versions, and not just the IMAX version with certain other stuff spliced in or out from WiP or OT.

The old edition is fine, but in retrospect not the best DVD out there. I've always felt that the making-of documentary is too disjointed and could have benefited from being about 20-30 minutes longer since there were so many people with so much to say. And the other minor features are too inconsequential to mean much, though there are a few good gems (the original pencil animation for the "Transformation" is gorgeous, and there's a kitschy factor when you watch the horrible-but-tolerable Jump 5 music video.). And the video quality is also a major issue with most people, so how you feel about that factors in as well. Plus, it's been OOP for over 5 years and is still quite hard to find in a used DVD section (though, for some odd reason, from September 2005 to November 2005 I was always finding them, and thankfully bought one before they all suddenly disappeared again!). If you're adamant of getting the old edition, go for it, but only if you feel you really can't wait another 2 years or if you feel your VHS is about to die on you.

One thing I hope is different is the menus. I didn't like those CG menus on the original release.

I'd add a few episodes of "Sing Me a Story with Belle" to the mix, but that's just me.

Here's a little bit of what I am talking about:

Yeah, I always found it weird that in the section about the voice actors they mention everyone except the actor who played Gaston, the main ANTAGONIST of the film.

Although they could've been better, it was nice to see Disney put some effort into their releases unlike recent PEs

anyway, I will be so angry if they're planning to just re-issue the PE line with exactly the same material. Batb may have got decent bonus features but the PQ was just terrible. I couldn't even watch that ballroom sequence! Did anyone realise that Belle turned into a redhead and somehow got a tan?

And what about the four Sing Along Songs taken from Beauty and the Beast? Those are definitely going on my release...

And I too hate the animated menus. The copy I rented from the library doesn't even work... that stupid animated menu game just loops back to the main menu! I prefer menus that are simple and to the point.
Animation is fine, but please let it be ONCE THE BUTTONS SHOW UP. I hate the Star Wars-like menus where you have to sit there and watch 30 seconds or more or intro before you can play the stupid movie... Especially the newer ones that can't be skipped! Boo PUOs!

I think it was more the setting that I didn't like. If I were making the main menu for the movie, I would have had it be at the castle. Probably a shot of it from the outside and the other menus would take you to a different room in the castle.

Ideas for the menus-
Disc 1-Beast's Castle and after you play the movie it's unenchanted and back to normal.
Disc 2-Belle's village.
(Well,it's like in The Little Mermaid PE disc 1 is in Atlantica and disc 2 is in Eric's kingdom and in Aladdin PE disc 1 is in Agrabah and disc 2 in the Cave Of Wonders).

In general, I think CG is way overdone for DVD menus.

I liked in the Cinderella PE menu of disc 1 that it has a carrige that moves and stops for a while,I liked Enchanted Tales's menu who's like a book and I think that Ariel's Beginning menus are even prettier then the Platinum Edition's menus (Well, the PE's menus had recycled animation from the film and even Little Mermaid II (Espically in disc 2 with Sebastian and the clams,in disc 1 the fishes in the bonus section are from Little Mermaid II),I hope they"ll have something original.

I totally love that idea :D - it would be such a bonus to see the castle transformed after watching the movie. I would love to see some menus amongst the beautiful stained glass windows, and the forest with wolves creeping here and there in the distance. And ofcourse a menu in the ballroom with Belle and the Beast dancing :)
