There is no way in the world that Brother Bear can be as bad as that annoying film, Spirit! Just give Brother Bear a chance, we know you'll love it.
oh i think Brother Bear will do better than Spirit. just a little better, though. i personally will go watch brother bear being the big animation fan that i am. i'm just afraid that it is not going to have the mass appeal of lion king or even of tarzan.

sometimes wonderful films don't work at the box office. take treasure planet, for example. maybe the week before brother bear is released we can all predict how well we think brother bear is going to do at the box office. btw, $15-20 million opening weekend isn't bad considering that brother bear is opening on a Saturday and NOT a Friday like other films. Hence, the box office weekend tally will be for only two days.

I wasn't referring to how much money BB will make. I didn't think that you were either, but I guess you were. 'Spirit' just annoyned me, the animation was okay but the story stank and the horse was really dumb. I was talking movie-wise, I think that Brother Bear will be a great, entertaining film. I can't predict the box office, I don't know what kind of crowds it will attract, I just know that it will be a good movie, no matter what the opening weekend gross is.

somehow in my opinion, Brother Bear characters look alot like the characters at the Coutry Bear Jamboree. maybe Disney is going to remake Country Bear Jamboree and have it to look more like Brother Bear.

hey folks, this is from animated-movies:

The Hollywood Reporter Raves about Brother Bear!
"Disney bids farewell to 2-D in fine style," writes THR which seems to have forgotten about next April's Home on the Range. "For Brother Bear is a playful movie that celebrates nature and the spirit world with striking imagery and a smooth blend of drama and comedy. Directors Aaron Blaise and Robert Walker along with producer Chuck Williams have fun with the layout and design: The film starts off in an earthen color palette and the standard 1.85:1 format. Then, at the moment the movie's central character, a native American youth named Kenai, is transformed into a grizzly bear, the screen shifts to more saturated colors and Cinemascope or a 2.35:1 format, thus opening up the rich vistas of the Pacific Northwest of 10,000 years ago to our startled eyes. It's a grand moment. All the voice actors are terrific, especially Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas and later Michael Clarke Duncan as Tug, a jovial bear who welcomes fellow bears at the annual salmon run. The mix of 2-D and 3-D effects gives this post-Ice Age wilderness startling, painterly beauty. Disney animators fill the landscapes with spectacular water effects, billowing clouds, drifting snow, volcanic mud pots and the brilliant hues of the Northern Lights aurora. The Cinemascope format gives a vastness to the scenery as if this wilderness goes on forever. The film also benefits from melodic songs written by Phil Collins in his second Disney cartoon outing and his first collaboration (with Mark Mancina) on a film score. [Brother Bear] should attract solid family business at the boxoffice." We sure hope so!!

Intesresting they change the format during the film... this makes it more intersting in my opinion :o :) :D

It will be interesting to see if the DVD duplicates the twin aspect ratio. Galaxy Quest used the same device, and I don't think this was duplicated on the DVD.

Would it even work on DVD, as it would make the wider image smaller, unless the 1.85:1 was windowboxed. I can't see Disney windowboxing a DVD - they get enough complaints about black bars at the top and bottom at the moment.

The Hollywood Reporter likes Brother Bear. :)
Bottom line: A solid family film with striking visuals may mark Disney's swan song to traditional animation.

The characters look cute. Now that I've read some positive reviews, I really want to see it. If I can't watch it in theaters, I'll buy the DVD next year. I'm thinking about buying the soundtrack next week.

Animated Bliss also has an article on Brother Bear http://www.animatedbliss.com/news.asp?TID=1109

2099net, your theory scares me....anyway there is a possiblity, but I hope they just make both aspect ratios for the dvd.

This movie backgrounds will be awesome!!! is the thing I´m more exited about.

I think it is odd that they change the aspect ratio in the middle of the film... Anyway, I think the DVD will "windowbox" the picture... they did the same to the "Sorcerer's Aprentice" segment in "Fantasia 2000". I'm sure the DVD will also feature a pan-&-scan version, since 2.35:1 is so 'family-unfriendly'.

Well, looking forward to the film!

The 1.85:1 referred to in the review is probably a cropped 1.66:1. Yikes, that WILL be a big jump on DVD from 1.66:1 to 2.35:1, I wonder how they'll handle it. Me, I would just have done the entire movie in 2.35:1 and changed the color palette to brighter during the portion of the film when Keani is a bear.

I don't know about the rest of you, but after having read some of the Making of book, listening to Phil Collins songs online, and seeing a couple of positive reviews; I have to say that I'm pretty excited about Brother Bear. I think it's going to be a great movie that could be pretty successful is Disney markets it correctly (or at all, I've only seen two or three BB commercials in the last wekk or so, but I remember when a new Disney movie was all over the place).

Personally, I can't wait to see it and hope it does very well.

While I tend to prefer the human-starring films, I'm definitely going to see Brother Bear (glad they managed to get that lawsuit out of the way... Bears was just an awful title.)

It seems like an interesting mix between Pocahontas and The Lion King... a nice traditional piece of Disney. I wish the characters sang all of their songs, though. I don't think this flick is up for any Best Picture awards, so why not just go with the traditional, kid-friendly musical.

And hey, there's actual CANADIAN moose in this movie. Reason enough to see it.

I'm wondering though, is this the first representation of my countrymen in a Disney animated feature?

I don't think you can compare those 2 movies with each other. As I heard Brother bear will be with talking animals (disney's favorite, see the lion king, bambi, robin hood, ...) and in Spirit only the people were voiced. This gave a totally different movie than traditional Disney movies, and that's why I actually didn't like it that much. I think it will be a succes, IF Disney gives some more money to advert it. Haven't seen anything of it these days, and the release date is not THAT far off.

I think you're right (I'm Canadian too)! But that really isn't much of an honour-should stereotypical moose really be our first representation?

What I hate is that the moose keep saying "It's just like the Lion King, only with bears, and a different story..." and so on.
That really says a lot about Disney's confidence in the story. Just like the made Mulan seem like a "companion" film of sorts to Pocahontas.

Really? I'm really looking forward to the story. The "wise-woman" of Kenai's tribe will be a lot like Grandmother Willow, IMO.

Second Review of Brother Bear: "Terrible"
Slant Magazine read between the lines of the new Disney film, which opens in NYC and L.A. this Friday, and goes on a rant that will likely make you laugh or yawn. One of those reviews that says more about its author than the animated movie unfortunately...
source animted movies

 heres the full review, honestly this guy never gives good reviews
