Re: Disney's Live Action "The Lion King"
That's an interesting choice for Scar and not one I would have thought of. I guess Hugh has a tendency to play the lovable villains considering he played Gaston and nearly played the Phantom of the Opera.

Welp. I would not have expected that casting. I like Hugh Jackman and I’m sure he’ll do decently. Not who I would’ve guessed they’d look at for a wimpy, pretentious character like Scar.

They previewed the opening sequence at D23 and it was identical to the original. Are people really OK with a frame-by-frame, fully-CG remake?
Source: http://collider.com/the-lion-king-remak ... ription/CG.The footage will look stunningly familiar to any fan of the 1994, a mirrored recreation of the beloved film, reimagined in photoreal CG.

Not only okay, but then they go and write lengthy essays on Vogue or Buzzfeed or whatever site of the moment about how much superior the remake is, frame-by-frame.
You know I think Disney could make a film about a talking turd, and these people would eat it up and demand more.

yuk!
its sad to think that these live actions films will eventually replace the 2d animated ones in the minds of many of the young kids who watch them. Suppose that's exactly Disney's goal. Sigh.

Re: Disney's Live Action "The Lion King"
It's really not a strange choice. The original The Circle of Life sequence was a landmark on it's self, so it's not strange that this new version have duplicated it (despite that we can't forget that though the first The Lion King ended with a brief reprise of song, it's sequel began with a completely different song, He Lives in You). But let's not forget that the remake of Beauty and the Beast was more or less simply quite identical to it's animated predecessor.Sotiris wrote:They previewed the opening sequence at D23 and it was identical to the original. Re: Disney's Live Action "The Lion King"
Is there anyone here who went to the expo and saw the footage? If yes, how was it?
I'm dying to see it myself, and I really hope they'll release it online.

I'm not sure about Buzzfeed, since they wrote this fairly scathing review that I love to bits.thedisneyspirit wrote:Not only okay, but then they go and write lengthy essays on Vogue or Buzzfeed or whatever site of the moment about how much superior the remake is, frame-by-frame.

I was excited to learn about this but it looks like most of the rest of the cast is comparatively questionable.Sotiris wrote:John Oliver cast as Zazu.

That review was mostly right. They took the words right out of my mouth: Beauty and the Beast was a less lively copy of the original animated film. The film doesn't deserve the money it made, but does deserve the poor reviews it got.Avaitor wrote:I'm not sure about Buzzfeed, since they wrote this fairly scathing review that I love to bits.thedisneyspirit wrote:Not only okay, but then they go and write lengthy essays on Vogue or Buzzfeed or whatever site of the moment about how much superior the remake is, frame-by-frame.

Re: Disney's Live Action "The Lion King"
I'm reading about the live action D23 panel at Laughing Place, and am just wondering if the "Circle of Life" scene will be exactly the one in the film?

I hate that they're making this, and that so far they're marketing it as a shot-for-shot remake, but I just wonder if the shot-for-shot remake of "Circle of Life" was just for D23, and it'll change for the actual movie...?But the most anticipated film in this category is The Lion King and Disney fan John Favreau was not about to disappoint 8,000 of his fellow card carrying D23 members. He explained that the film is very early in production, but the first question he asked when he was put on the project was "When is D23?" so he could get something ready. We were treated to Circle of Life fully animated to look live action and set to the song from the original film. It was absolutely breathtaking and we all turned into puddles when baby Simba sneezed.

Re: Disney's Live Action "The Lion King"
I was surprised that they already had footage to show at the expo. Maybe it was an animation test made to find the look of the movie and won't be in the final film, but it's also possible that they want to make this particular part of the film very similar to the original, like they did with the christening scene in Maleficent, because it's quite an iconic sequence.

Are. you. serious? Are they seriously kissing butt and turning the movie to "The Beyonce Show" for her?

http://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Wi ... k-20170731It has been reported that Beyonce is currently in final negotiations to star as Nala in Jon Favreau's upcoming big screen remake of Disney's The Lion King.
Bey's contract, which has been estimated at a whopping $25 million, reportedly also includes a clause which would have the pop titan create all- new music for an "Afro-Tribal" inspired soundtrack. New songs by Beyonce will reportedly be recorded for the film, in addition to the animated film's classic score.
Re: Disney's Live Action "The Lion King"
They already did the same for Angelina Jolie and Emma Watson, so why the outrage?disneyprincess11 wrote:Are. you. serious? Are they seriously kissing butt and turning the movie to "The Beyonce Show" for her?![]()

Nala isn’t even a big part in TLK… I guess they’re including the musical storyline and “Shadowland”? I don’t hate Beyonce, but I definitely don’t think of her as an actress (or a good one anyway…) or the kind of voice that would suit TLK.

Re: Disney's Live Action "The Lion King"
This is ludicrous. I don't care if she voices Nala or not but if there's going to be new music in the film, it should come from the original songwriting team all of whom are still active (Elton John, Tim Rice, Hans Zimmer, Lebo M.).disneyprincess11 wrote:Also includes a clause which would have the pop titan create all- new music for an "Afro-Tribal" inspired soundtrack. Re: Disney's Live Action "The Lion King"
i would much rather see queen latifah in that role. she can act, sing and seems to be well respected.
