The bonus disc doesn't sound quite as slapped together as I thought it'd be, but it's still not enough for a re-purchase. Besides, isn't one of those features (the animatic) an easter egg on the current DVD?

I'm still somewhat confused on the packaging, do you have close-up shots of the entire set that you might be able to post Luke?

It's basically the original POTC keepcase only replaced by a new slipcover which also somehow houses a metal tray with the bonus disc? How would that work?

Is the "lost disc" packaged totally seperately from the original two and is there anyways to put all the discs together in the same case or will the extra disc only fit in it's tray?

Overall, would you say it looks better than the original 2-disc POTC w/ slipcover or is their really no difference?

Finally, if one already owned the original 2-discer, would there be anyway to put the slipcover / lenticular cover over this new set?

They're packaged to each other's side, as in this picture:

The dark red strip around the bottom is light cardboard, and doesn't really hold them together unless they're both sealed.

The Lost Disc is packaged separately, and it looks like it's just a disc in a metal hub, but it folds back into a thin paper sleeve. (You're left with a thick piece of cardboard and a hard plastic sleeve that are just asking to be thrown away.) That's how I'm keeping mine, and I've put it right next to the 2-disc keepcase (with slipcover). It looks like a thin book, next to it.

So really, the gift set isn't so much packaged together, but sealed together like any Disney 2-pack would be (see the Freaky Fridays).

Ah, Thanks Luke.

I sort of figured it out just before you posted after looking over the pictures again..

So you have your regular 2-disc keepcase, same as before sans slipcover and than you have this new disc packaged totally seperately in a tin tray as thought it were a seperate release, than binded together with some sort of cardboard strip like the Gremlins movies...

I wonder why Disney couldn't bother to just include an extra floating disc tray in the keepcase to make this one complete 3-disc set and toss a new updated slipcover over the packaging?

Oh well, I guess I can buy the right keepcase and do that on my own...

Last question now - where does the paper sleeve for the lost disc come from? Is it just packed away under the tin or on the back somehow for you to slip on at home after opening it all up? This is the only part I'm having trouble visualizing...

The tin is actually just like a metal tray, which itself is the inner right side of the book-like case when you unfold it. The glossy inner left side of the package is the back the way its originally folded. And the outer covers are the non-glossy type as if they were the inside.

It'd be easier to show with pictures, I'm sure, but unfortunately I don't have easy access to a digital camera. The two pictures in the review were a hassle themselves, and I'm sorry they and the write-up didn't fully clarify.

One last try. The gold-colored metal that you see in this picture:

that is really the inside of the paper case, as if it's been folded inside-out. When you fold it the right way, it's used to the other, so it will need to go in between places to get it to look comfortable in the normal position.

So much writing on the packaging...I hope that helps a little.

You think they'd sell JUST the thrid disc? I wouldn't like to Double Dip just for the 3rd disc. Also, I remember finding the Animatic Easter Egg, too, but I'm not sure if it is for the same scene as the one advertised in the PR.

Ah, that's good, so I can do what I mentioned in another thread: Buy it, return the sealed 2-disc somewhere else, and use that store credit for a DVD I don't have yet (maybe I'll buy it in November, wait around until December, and get Mary Poppins...)

Don't think that will work. There's a sticker that says "Not for Individual Sale" or something like that which is placed over the UPC of the 2-disc set. I can't remember if it was individually sealed apart from the bonus disc. I think maybe not. Your best bet if you're looking to unload an extra copy would probably be either to give/trade it to someone you know, or sell it on eBay.
