Bummer. I'd liked what he did with Aladdin, but maybe now he'll available to direct the sequel?

I had the chance to interview Alan Menken and asked him about the Hercules live action movie.

Seems like he is not really involved with it (yet) but has heard about it obviously.

They still don't have a script? The film's been in development for so long...
In addition to all of the above, the Russo Brothers are also due to produce Disney's live-action adaptation of beloved animated classic Hercules which The Gentlemen's Guy Ritchie is due to direct - a project they say they are still "waiting on a script" for.

I'd imagine they've probably seen several scripts, they just haven't landed on one that Disney likes. What they're even looking for with this remake has probably been in flux over the last few years with Disney needing to rethink how they want to even handle their remake train.

Anyways, didn't Ritchie exit this movie like four posts ago?

Perhaps Guy Ritchie's departure is exaggerated. Maybe it's dependent on *when* Disney is interested in releasing the film (if they are at all) on whether or not he'll be involved, since I think he has several projects going.

Personally, I still don't see any point to making the movie if it's not a musical. There have been so many live-action Hercules films that have flopped, the only thing that would make it stand out is the music. Personally, I wouldn't mind if they put it off making it (if they're determined to) for a while. I always thought Ariana Grande and Jeff Goldblum would be a good fit for Meg and Hades respectively (Ariana since she's someone who can sing that has an interest in the role, and Goldblum because of his part in the Thor sequel years back), so it's a shame they're both preoccupied with Wicked. If only they could put this film off for a while until those two and Ritchie are available, then get JHUD/Lizzo and Devito for the Muses and Phil respectively, perhaps the guy who was Elton John in that film a few years back as Hercules, that would be pretty fun. And if Wicked ends up being a hit, having another musical film with Grande and Goldblum soon after might give the film better chances, too.
