They are inspired by more than one person.
Has it ever been confirmed, though?

Animated by Mark Henn, Jasmine's design is an eclectic combination of unique sources, including an anonymous theme park guest, Henn's own sister, and actress Jennifer Connelly.

Besides what the others posted, I also specifically meant to talk about the celebrity influences on the Disney Princesses, otherwise each princess definitely was inspired by more than one person, most non-famous, such as Mark Henn's sister like you said or the live-action reference models.

From what I've seen of Pocahontas, I think she might have been based off the most amount of people. I know several supermodels were chosen, including Naomi Campbell, and Irene Bedard herself. I never understood why people say Pocahontas doesn't look Native American when she's a dead ringer for Irene imo. Irene herself said that she could see herself and her mannerisms in the character and that not only did her brother notice this too at the premiere, but Irene's 2-year old son also recognized his mother instantly when he watched Pocahontas. Russell Means, upon first seeing Pocahontas' finished design, revealed that she looked just like his own daughter and at the film premiere, the animators got to see Russell Means' daughter and they realized he was 100% correct.

Hm, yes, maybe that's why Cinderella's hair is golden blonde, but it could be the titian reason, too!

The behind-the-scenes stuff said they based her on some intimidating women, or an intimidating woman, of the time. I think one person, if the only one, was Joan Crawford. I don't remember.

Thanks for describing what you remember. BTW, do you remember if there was any particular celebrity from the time that Cinderella was based off of? I can't remember if Disney had anyone in mind.

I don't recall them ever saying they based her on anyone in particular. I feel like I would have remembered that as the huge Cinderella fan I am.

Thanks for confirming that and yes, if you can't recall a particular somebody then I'm sure there wasn't anyone specific because I consider you the repository of Cinderella information. ;)

Wow, that was so awesome, thank you Sotiris! But Cinderella's ball gown was wrong...both the pink and the silvery blue one... Oh well, minor thing, it was still beautiful and wonderful!

The only time recently that they got Cinderella's gown color right was in Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep. They also got Aurora in blue in those games as well.

Very true bradhig. I really like that about the Kingdom Hearts games. I liked her hair color in them, too.

Agreed, I love the accurate dresses for Cinderella and Aurora as well as Cinderella's hair color. I wish Jasmine's outfit was more blue than green though. And Ariel's seashell bra is too dark purple and her tail way too green. Snow White's skirt is also too bright of a yellow and not pastel enough.

They didn't get her ears right. I am playing KH1 final mix on my XBOX one and I don't see any ears on Cinderella while she is in Castle Chapel.

I thought her hair and earrings covered her ears when she's wearing her ball gown bradhig?

Yes JeanGreyForever, they still were not accurate with everyone.

Do you mean her ballgown look like Duster said or were you referring to her maid look?
