I never cared much about the Mandalorian mythos but anything if Jon Favreau is attached to this, my interest is automatically piqued.

This was posted anonymously on 4chan so take it with a grain of salt.
The episodes will be standalone aside from 1 and 8, chronicling the Mandalorian's activities in the Outer Rim in the aftermath of the fall of the Empire. Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Omid Abtahi and Giancarlo Esposito are the only recurring characters, everyone else is appearing in only one episode as a person of interest in the Mandalorian's current mission.

Pascal is playing the Mandalorian, whose real name is never revealed, although he is referred to as "Dax". Carano is rival bounty hunter Lyssa, who wants revenge against the Mandalorian for the death of her family, Abtahi is engineer Galc, who frequently helps the Mandalorian, and Esposito is mobster Grath, who frequently employs the Mandalorian and ultimately doublecrosses him. He also ordered Lyssa's family's death and ultimately kills Galc, and in the final episodes the Mandalorian and Lyssa have to join forces against him.

Nick Nolte and Werner Herzog only have voice acting roles. Carl Weathers plays a political leader targeted for assassination and Emily Swallon plays the kidnapped daughter of a crime lord.

The first live action Star Wars as a TV-show. Bootleg video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0p2gB7-eCEk

Instead of green screens, they are using video/LCD walls. And many of the same virtual reality techniques used in Lion King. But the ship is a physical model.

This could perhaps also be the first Star Wars show where the Force is not involved. If it's a success, maybe we can see other spin-offs too, like one that focus on androids.

Yesterday my husband was talking about this show. He is one of the Star Wars fans who is unhappy with the direction the franchise has been going in; he wishes this was a film- I guess he thinks less of it since it's a TV show, but he said they better not mess it up (implying that Star Wars will be dead to a large part of the fan base if so)...

I'm sorry to hear that your husband has been so disillusioned with Star Wars lately. I think I remember you said before that he had issues with The Last Jedi and/or Solo. Has there been any Disney Star Wars film he's liked so far? If he hasn't, it's odd then that he wishes The Mandalorian was a film since it likely wouldn't appeal to him much either.

Tbh, I don't really understand this hyperbole type of talk that many Star Wars fans do, about how the franchise has been ruined because of one or two films or a TV series that they didn't like.

He doesn't hate The Force Awakens, but I think he feels that it's a retread of A New Hope. After watching Solo, he said it wasn't as bad as he was expecting. I honestly feel that he watches negative YouTube videos and that changes his perception...I could be wrong, though. For me, I'm the kind of Star Wars fan that is happy to go on whatever journey they present to me. I've never been disappointed in any of the movies (would I have chosen another path for Luke in The Last Jedi? Yeah... Would I have not wanted "Mary Poppins Leah?" Yeah... Do I like Rose but stan Rey/Finn? Yeah... I liked when
Rose/Finn freed the horses, but my husband/YouTubers poopoo on that...).

I personally prefer films to TV shows, so maybe he doesn't want a drawn-out story? I don't fully get it either, Jean Grey. But Star Wars isn't my #1 fandom; Disney's movies aren't all tied together like the Star Wars plots are, so unless they retcon, part of me sees where the fans could be upset, because a plot they don't like can "plague" the other films' plots... I know that my hubby is excited for the return of Palpatine. Sorry for sidetracking this thread!!

More a teaser than a trailer in my opinion, but it looks very promising. The question is; what about those countries where Disney+ will not be available? If Disney is willing to allow Netflix or HBO to show it instead here, they could make some additional profit (and if not, I assume there will be a lot of illegal downloads).

I've been pleased with all the films as well and I'm also happy with whatever route Star Wars takes us so far. I never understood the hatred for Leia's flying scene (Mary Poppins it is not) nor the scene where Rose and Finn free the fathiers even though both get a lot of flack for some reason. Rey/Finn seems unlikely considering how Kylo centric the new film will be and Daisy Ridley remarking that Finn is like a brother to Rey. Then again, Luke and Leia were meant to be together until he actually became her brother.

That's a good point about TV shows vs films. I'm very excited about Palpatine's return as well although I'm not sure we even need to spoilertag that since the teaser was a dead giveaway (not to mention there are little to no Star Wars fans on here lol). The Mandalorian so far doesn't seem like it'll tie-in to the films too much and because of the setting, we can't set auxiliary characters like Cassian or Darth Maul make appearances either.

I know Rey/Finn is unlikely...and I do like Rose. I think the thing with "flying Leia" was that it was out of the blue, without exploring her force powers...

I really don't see all the hullabaloo about Leia flying. She possesses the Skywalker blood which her ultra-powerful father, brother, and son all possess. It's even been confirmed that Luke meant to train her as a Jedi but she chose to remain in the field of politics so had to renege on her training. Even so, it makes sense that she would possess enough innate power to survive in space and bring herself to safety.

^ That's true. I personally would have liked spending just a weensy more time on what else she was capable of regarding her powers. Maybe in Ep. 9?

Ep. 9 was always meant to be Carrie Fisher's film (the way 7 heavily featured Han and 8 was mainly about Luke). There's a lot of speculation that we would have gotten some more force powers from Leia in this film. That may not be completely possible now but J.J. Abrams said at the panel that Carrie Fisher is the heart of this film and seemed to suggest that her role is even bigger than what many people have thought so far.
