Musical Master wrote:I am so happy that Rob Marshall wanted a hand drawn sequence for the film. It would've been so easy for Disney if it was CG, but Marshall was like: "No, I want a hand-drawn sequence just like the original" and I am very glad he went that direction.
Rob has always been a very artistic person who cares about aesthetics so it's not a surprise to me he insisted on a hand-drawn sequence. It wasn't just because the original had 2D animation, it's because he understands the medium offers a certain feel than CG animation can't replicate. You can always count on his movies being visually lush and appealing even when the script isn't as strong.

I love those posters! Especially, the whole flowing petals theme. There's a British variation of them too, if you're interested.
I like the golden sparkles and light coming out of her umbrella but her lower half seems off. She looks a little off balance as if she was caught mid-step.
Musical Master wrote:That was so wonderful hearing the iconic orchestral version of "Spoonful of Sugar" in Marc Shaiman's score.
It was but it made me miss the original music even more. I wish they had let Richard Sherman write the songs or even just the score. It would have helped maintain better musical cohesion with the original film.
disneyprincess11 wrote:And Trip A Little Fantastic has been revealed! It is well...FANTASTIC!
Am I the only one who didn't like it? It's a poor imitation of the Sherman brothers' style. Here's hoping the other songs will be better.

That's true. Speaking of Rob Marshall, he talks a bit about the 2D animation in the film in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUwETQy3N5I

Thanks! This really solidified my perception of him. It's nice to hear he wanted to honor the craft of hand-drawn animation.

Same! I think that's helped clear the reservations of many of us.

I wasn't impressed by it either. Well, I'd like to clarify that I haven't disliked any of the song snippets we've gotten so far, including this one. It's just that the songs from the original film are so good, that I was expecting more. I didn't expect them to be as good as the Sherman brothers' ones, I knew that was very difficult, but, I don't know, these ones aren't as catchy as I hoped and have a more generic Broadway sound. Anyway, I know that these are just small snippets and that there are more songs in the film, so I agree that we'll have to listen to the full soundtrack to judge it properly.

I have some hope, though, because I really like the music we hear in the first trailer from this point till the end. I wasn't sure if it was from the film or not, but we now know that the music from the beginning of the trailer is from "Can You Imagine That", so I assume that melody is also from a song we haven't heard yet. I also like the titles of most of the songs and some details we know about them, so I hope I'm mistaken and they're better than they seem to me now from the little we've already heard.

Yes, that was great. And what I liked even more is when she orders Michael to close his mouth like in the original. It's a nice reference.

By the way, I wonder which animators came out of retirement to work on the animated sequence.

Indeed D82, that music from the end of that trailer sounds like it may be a great song.

Apparently there was a SAG screening in LA and it ended with a standing ovation. The people tweeted nothing but positive notices basically saying what a pure joy the entire film is. :D :D :D :D

That's a good entrance for the character of Mary Poppins. I believe they said it's from one of the books, right?

In 'Mary Poppins Comes Back', Mary comes down from the skies, holding onto the kite. Just like in the trailers.

I like that they're incorporating different moments from the film for the soundtrack cover than just re-using the theatrical poster as is. It's little touches like that which makes you realize a lot of care has gone into the film.

Those clips were lovely! Plus I love the soundtrack cover's good use of the theatrical poster's artwork in different ways, very clever. Plus the article about the songs is so interesting that I dearly wished the entire panel with Shaiman and Wittman playing the songs was filmed.

I mean, when Disney proper is only making a handful of films a year and most of what they've released has been lackluster (to put it nicely), I'd think they would need to put in a lot of care and attention to this film and its marketing.

Thanks for the confirmation. It's a fitting way to introduce the character given that the original finishes with kites.

Me too. Unfortunately, recording wasn't allowed during the event, but a Rotoscopers collaborator was there and shares some of the songs' lyrics in this article.

Here's also the entire Q&A panel after the screening for SAG members that took place on Saturday. I found it quite interesting.

And some articles are already discussing the Oscar chances of the film:

I know someone who saw the film today. I think we can start believing the hype. This film could be big.
