Haha, dude, you need to relax. It's 2014
Plus, it's unknown if WIR 2 will come out that time...or at all. And I expect Moana coming to 2017.

Calm down with the overreacting. I assume Sotiris is only making these threads so the first post will have all info. when the time comes. I would personally rather Sotiris make these threads than others, just because I know I, for instance, am very bad at making threads and putting links to this, that, and whatever which would make the thread more cohesive.
Also, FYI, we also have threads for films that may not be out until 2019 or beyond.

Re: Oscar for Best Animated Feature 2018
The Academy has announced new rules in the music and animation categories:
Source: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/race/ ... ts-1105368When it comes to the Academy's music categories, things are likely to get a bit more cut-throat than ever earlier in the season, with the music branch announcing that it will announce a shortlist of 15 finalists for the best original score and best original song Oscars, as determined by a preferential ballot, in December. This means that more than a month before Oscar noms are announced, the vast majority of contenders for each of those awards will be eliminated.
Good news has arrived for producers of films aiming to compete for the best animated feature and best documentary feature Oscars. In recent years, no more than one producer could be nominated alongside a director in those categories, but the Academy has now aligned its rules governing those categories with the rules governing the best picture category so that three producers can be eligible for a film, with the possibility of a fourth if an appeal is approved.
Finally, as part of an effort to streamline voting deadlines, the Academy announced that six "specialty categories" — best animated feature, best documentary feature and best foreign language feature, plus all three shorts categories, best animated short, best documentary short and best live action short — will now have the same submission deadline of Oct. 1, while hopefuls in all other categories will have until Nov. 15 to enter the race.

We ALL know this will take the Oscar for Best Animated Feature 2018, Toy Story 4, you're next.
Re: Oscar for Best Animated Feature 2018
I've heard some really positive things about Tito and the Birds. I can see GKIDS acquiring that one and making that their big Oscar push.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Isle of Dogs
Early Man (or Paddington 2 if it's eligible)
Re: Oscar for Best Animated Feature 2018
^With the current rules in the category, it sounds very likely that these titles could be the nominees.
Re: Oscar for Best Animated Feature 2018
^^ I wouldn't be surprised if those were the ones nominated

Re: Oscar for Best Animated Feature 2018
25 animated films have been submitted for consideration to the Academy. Many eligible indie films such as Haikara-San: Here Comes Miss Modern, Laughing Under the Clouds: Gaiden, Revengeance, and Tehran Taboo were not submitted and neither were the family-friendly, animation/live-action hybrids such as Paddington 2, Peter Rabbit, Monster Hunt 2, and Christopher Robin.
Netflix chose to render ineligible all of its animated features this year including White Fang, Next Gen, Duck Duck Goose, Gnome Alone, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, and Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle.
Here's a breakdown of the submitted films by country. In the case of co-productions, I've listed the movie only under its primary producing country.
USA
The Grinch
Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation
Incredibles 2
Isle of Dogs
Ralph Breaks the Internet
Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero
Smallfoot
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Teen Titans Go! To the Movies
UK
Early Man
Sherlock Gnomes
France
MFKZ
Tall Tales
Hungary
Ruben Brandt, Collector
Mexico
Ana y Bruno
Brazil
Tito and the Birds
China
Have a Nice Day
Taiwan
On Happiness Road
Japan
Fireworks
The Laws of the Universe — Part I
Liz and the Blue Bird
Lu Over the Wall
Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms
Mirai
The Night Is Short, Walk On Girl
Based on the submitted entries, my prediction for the films nominated becomes the following.
Best Case Scenario
Incredibles 2
Ralph Breaks the Internet
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Isle of Dogs
Ruben Brandt, Collector
Worst Case Scenario
Incredibles 2
Ralph Breaks the Internet
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Isle of Dogs
The Grinch

I could see Early Man make it in, given that many still love Aardman.

Re: Oscar for Best Animated Feature 2018
I have my doubts about that. Not only Early Man is the 2nd worst reviewed Aardman film after Flushed Away, it was released early this year so it's not on the Academy's radar. Not to mention, the spot of the token stop-motion this time is taken by the Isle of Dogs. If they're going to let another indie in, it's probably going to be a hand-drawn one. With the changes in the voting process—the whole Academy can nominate now for this category instead of just members of the animation breach—it's even more likely they'll nominate another American CG movie instead of a second indie.Avaitor wrote:I could see Early Man make it in, given that many still love Aardman.
