Re: Favorite John Musker and Ron Clements Disney Movie
I'm very happy for them. And since this thread is from 2012 and pre-Moana, I'll rank their films again. This is by how much I like them. The ratings on the other hand are what I'd give them objectively.
1. The Little Mermaid 10/10
2. Hercules 7/10
3. The Princess and the Frog 6/10
4. Aladdin 10/10
5. The Great Mouse Detective 7/10
6. Treasure Planet 4/10
7. Moana 8/10
I think the top 3 will always be ranked the same, while the rest shift around over the years. This is a list by how much I like them.

Definitely one of the things I'll miss most about M&C as a team. I'm glad they were able to bring so many beloved characters to life.

1-2 are my absolute favs while 3-4 are ones that I like overall and find to be incredibly underrated. I have mixed feelings on Hercules as there's a lot I love but also I lot that I don't appreciate anymore. It likely would have ranked after The Little Mermaid and Aladdin if I had ranked these films when I was younger. TPATF is faulty starting with its premise but like Hercules there are elements I like from it. Moana lacks the repeatability that the others have for me and I've grown to find it incredibly derivative, not to mention I don't care for the meta jokes either. It seems tailor made for the current Disney audience but in doing so it lacks creativity and originality.

Thinking about it, I think all of their films are pretty good, but some of them have had to grow on me. I've only seen Moana once and found it satisfactory but not as good as some of the other recent WDAS films, but maybe it'll grow on me.

Yes, it is. I think that shows that they're all very good and each of them has its fans.Mooky wrote:It's interesting how pretty much everybody ranks them differently.
I'll try to rank them too, but I'm only sure of the first two positions on my list. The rest could change.
1. The Little Mermaid
2. Aladdin
3. Hercules
4. The Great Mouse Detective
5. Treasure Planet
6. Moana
7. The Princess and the Frog
I really like Moana, but I wasn't sure where to put it on my ranking for that same reason. I have grown up with some of the other films and they have a much more special place in my heart. I can recognize that some of the new films are even better than some old ones, but in general I don't like them as much as many of the previous ones yet.Wonderlicious wrote:Thinking about it, I think all of their films are pretty good, but some of them have had to grow on me. 1. Aladdin. Half my like of this film is nostalgia, but the other side is that I still enjoy it to this day. I like all the characters and the songs, and It just puts me in a good mood.
2. Hercules. The message of the film seems kinda shallow and inconsistent, and objectively it's not as strong as the Fab Four, but I really like the art style and the characters.
3. The Little Mermaid. Still feels very fresh in some aspects. Very magical and Divinity's comments have given me new appreciation for the film. I also have some nostalgic love for it, so yeah.
4. Treasure Planet. The humor is really intrusive and the extras are really obnoxious, but Amelia and Doppler are fun and the strength of the film is Silver and Jim's relationship.
5. Great Mouse Detective. The two leads are really unique in the Disney pantheon and enjoyable. A small film, but still fun.
6. Princess and the Frog. If it wasn't for Lasseter's politics/pixar intrusion and the slow frog middle the movie would be amazing. It still has a lot of passion and Disney magic tho.
7. Moana. Dull, seems robotic and overly concerned with appealing to marketing and audiences than telling a genuine good story or memorable characters. The non-Miranda music is nice, tho.
