With Carrie Fisher's death, I'm expecting this film to do even better. If I'm correct, even the trailer has higher views than Force Awakens. While there are many self-proclaimed haters of Force Awakens, you can bet, that all of them will still be watching The Last Jedi just to hate on it more.estefan wrote:I think Star Wars: The Last Jedi will ultimately pass Beauty and the Beast both domestically and worldwide. I'm not expecting that to match The Force Awakens in grosses, but it should still be pretty massive.

I suppose Coco could also pass it, too, if it's as good as everyone's been saying and people flock to see it. Justice League was another one that unexpectedly had a meager opening performance.estefan wrote:I think Star Wars: The Last Jedi will ultimately pass Beauty and the Beast both domestically and worldwide. ^Coco is expected to do around $250 million domestically.
The Last Jedi on the other hand... yeah it's prob gonna knock BATB off the top.

I wonder why the studio would pour so much money into making and advertising a film expecting a weak follow-through.JeanGreyForever wrote: It was hardly unexpected.

Every headline I've seen says "lower than expected," so not sure what you're talking about. Stay crazy.

Only because Wonder Woman was a big hit so some people thought that Justice League would coast on that film's success. But this film was plagued by all the same issues that Batman vs Superman, Suicide Squad, Man of Steel, etc. had. Stay deluded. It gives me a good laugh.Disney's Divinity wrote:Every headline I've seen says "lower than expected," so not sure what you're talking about. Stay crazy.

"Some people"? You realize this isn't just me on a message board saying it--I never had any interest in seeing JL in the first place--this was written about everywhere? But I guess this is you again pretending to speak for a silent, unseen majority.JeanGreyForever wrote: Only because Wonder Woman was a big hit so some people thought that Justice League would coast on that film's success. Whatever. As usual this thread does something to trigger you and I'm tired of pandering to your mood swings like you're some sort of victim. Certain people get off on bringing tears into everything, but that type of behavior has no effect on me. No one expected Justice League to be a big hit, except those who believed Wonder Woman would save it. That clearly wasn't the case. There's a reason they didn't release the reviews for the film until right before it came out, because then history would have repeated itself. Ironically enough, it still did.Disney's Divinity wrote:"Some people"? Re: Beauty and the Beast Live-Action Discussion
Yes, it's incredible that the year is almost over and Beauty and the Beast is still at the top of both lists. When the film crossed the billion dollar mark, I remember we were discussing here whether any of the rest of the most anticipated films of the year would surpass it. I thought that maybe films like Spider-Man: Homecoming or Justice League would achieve that, but they haven't. Now, the only film that can take the top spot from Beauty and the Beast is The Last Jedi, and I also think it will, but the Disney film will still be the second highest-grossing film.Disney's Divinity wrote:I didn't know that. I had just assumed it would be passed-over by something or other (GotG 2 or Thor 3). I checked out the list at BoxOfficeMojo, and saw that Wonder Woman was next in line. I'm glad two films with smart, strong female characters were at the top of the list of 2017--particularly this year--with the current war on women in the U.S. A shame Get Out didn't make the top 10.Released on March 16, Beauty and the Beast still owns the best opening of 2017 with $174.7M, and remains the highest grossing title of the year both stateside at $504M and worldwide at $1.26B. Not to mention, Beauty and the Beast is the highest grossing musical ever.
It's also at the top of the worldwide list currently. Not sure if something else will pass it or not. Too bad Wonder Woman was leapfrogged by several films internationally. (I'm glad to see PotC:DMTNT has done well; I'd be fine if the series kept going.)

Yeah, there were so many superhero films coming out this year that I thought there was no way B&tB would still be at the top by December. If/when Star Wars passes it, #2 will still be better than I had expected.D82 wrote: Yes, it's incredible that the year is almost over and Beauty and the Beast is still at the top of both lists. At first, when I read it was getting rereleased in time for awards, I thought it was going to be similar to how Frozen was re-released with sing-along lyrics during the songs. Maybe they still will early next year.

So, no Golden Globe nomination for "Evermore". What's up with that?
Re: Beauty and the Beast Live-Action Discussion
^ Yeah, it's a shame. But I'm sure it will be nominated to the Oscars. The Golden Globes and the Oscars usually have very different tastes when it comes to best song.
