Telling that "Ursula" is some random trainer, this is definitely a joke. And there's no way Disney would hire her

Re: The Little Mermaid (Disney) Live-Action Film
Ha! Lindsay Lohan as Ariel! Although I really used to like her back in the day, she's way too old now to play a 16 year old, not to mention Disney would never hire her again. She doesn't exactly have a family-friendly image anymore. I am curious as to who Disney will cast for Ariel and Ursula though. As long as their Ursula interpretation isn't anything like in Once Upon a Time.

16-20 year lohan would have been great. Anything past 2005 though, ick.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Disney) Live-Action Film
Not Disney, but another studio's live action The Little Mermaid film. Nothing to do with the Disney movie except being based on the fairy tale. (I think it looks really, really good.)

Menken talks about the status of the live-action adaptation.
Source: https://www.flickeringmyth.com/2017/03/ ... an-menken/I think it’s possible that Aladdin might precede The Little Mermaid. Lin-Manuel Miranda, I knew him as a kid. He was fanatic about The Little Mermaid as a kid. He went to school with my niece, that’s how I knew him. He’s involved with Mary Poppins right now, so when he’s available and producer Mark Platt is available I’m sure we’ll get into that. But I don’t know who’s going to be directing it or who’s writing the script, so there’s so much left to be determined on that.
Source: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-v ... ter-985602Apparently, we're talking about a live-action movie-musical of The Little Mermaid. I had one meeting with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Marc Platt and that was it. It was great. I don't know who's directing it, I don't know who's writing it, but they're tied up in London for Mary Poppins Returns. I've known Lin-Manuel for much of his life; when he was a kid, he went to school with my niece.
Source: http://www.denofgeek.com/us/movies/beau ... crew-it-upHonestly can't say what's next, but yes, I'm slated to work with Lin-Manuel Miranda. He's going to write lyrics for new songs with me and also I think function as a producer on Mermaid.
Source: http://www.billboard.com/biz/articles/n ... ty-and-theThe Little Mermaid will pair him with Lin-Manuel Miranda, who will write the lyrics for the new songs written by Menken. The pair go away back: “I remember when he was a kid, literally signing posters for him. He went to school with my niece and my sister said, ‘There's this kid… he’s such a big fan.’ I remember going backstage during In the Heights. I look forward to working with him.”
Source: http://www.pedestrian.tv/news/entertain ... 52b3f8.htmWhen asked if the new 'Little Mermaid' would include new musical numbers as well as the originals, Menken replied: "We haven't started that yet. I imagine there will be, 'cause I'm going to be collaborating with Lin-Manuel Miranda, I doubt he's not gonna want new songs.
It also turns out that Miranda, like the rest of us, grew up with the Disney classics. "Lin, I knew him when he was a kid," said Menken. "He was a huge 'Little Mermaid' fan. He went to Hunter High with my niece, Jenny, and I hear from my sister" – here Menken puts on a heavy New Yorker accent – "'Oh there's this very talented young boy, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and he's such a fan, would you sign this poster for him', and I said sure. And here we are, working together."
Source: http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/ ... ll-of-fameQ: And up next is a live-action Little Mermaid?
Alan Menken: But first is a live-action Aladdin, most people don’t know that. First there was a live-action Little Mermaid, but both the producer and my collaborator on that, Lin-Manuel Miranda, are working on Mary Poppins in London, so Aladdin has now jumped ahead of it and that’s what I’m in the thick of now.

Yes, by all means, let's delay this film until some man who's never had any involvement with the property before is available to provide his input on how it should be preserved. For God's sake. Why did this re-make of all of them have to become LMM's pet project? Go screw up Aladdin or The Lion King and leave TLM alone.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Disney) Live-Action Film
I guess this confirms that Lin-Manuel Miranda will definitely be working on this film. I don't hate him the way others do here, but I really don't think his presence is warranted for this film. I just want Menken's untainted work and I can't see what Miranda would be able to provide that wouldn't take away from the film. Hopefully Disney gives him some other project or film. This would be perfect reason to start a Moana sequel if it meant that Miranda would be kept away from The Little Mermaid.Sotiris wrote:Menken talks about the status of the live-action adaptation.

He's a fan of the movie and named his son after Sebastian so that clearly entitles him to spearhead this remake.Disney's Divinity wrote:Why did this re-make of all of them have to become LMM's pet project?

Re: The Little Mermaid (Disney) Live-Action Film
Harvey Fierstein as Ursula? I'm not so sure about that. His voice is very distinct. Will he be able to pull off singing Poor Unfortunate Souls?
Source: http://www.gaytimes.co.uk/culture/63804 ... en-ursula/Legendary composer Alan Menken let slip his dream casting for another live-action reimagining – fairytale classic The Little Mermaid.
“I’ve wanted Harvey,” he giggles when we ask who he’d like to see play delicious baddie Ursula – a role usually played by a female. “I’ve wanted Harvey Fierstein to play Ursula. I would kill for that!”
Shocked at such a revelation and with us clearly begging for more, Alan reassures us that if it can happen, it will. “We wanted that, and we would love it in a flash!” he exclaims.
Harvey responded to the casting suggestion, writing via his Facebook page, “Oh, Alan, no need to kill anyone. Your wish is my command. As for the rest of you… Oh, you poor unfortunate souls!!!!”

I really doubt that'll happen. I'm sure he would do great in the role, though I don't think I could take his singing voice.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Disney) Live-Action Film
Well, Ursula is actually based on a drag queen, Divine whom character Harvey Fierstein plays in Hairspray twice, so yeah count me in. Also, I want to watch the holier-than-thou conservatives lose their minds
Re: The Little Mermaid (Disney) Live-Action Film
I just don't see it. Even taking into account her best-known roles, Lindsay is more of the street-wise type, whereas Ariel is more naive.Kyle wrote:16-20 year lohan would have been great. Anything past 2005 though, ick.
There's more to the character than just the red hair.

I hope they keep a seriousness to the film and cast a female. Might we laugh as a guy in drag like him tries to kill Ariel and Eric?

Lol Lindsay Lohan. Isn't she currently sucking it up to Erdogan in Turkey?
Re: The Little Mermaid (Disney) Live-Action Film
Harvey would nail the acting but I dunno about the singing. Too bad Divine wasn't around to do it.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Disney) Live-Action Film
I suggest Ursula be played by a drag queen and you all lose your damn minds. Menken suggests Harvey play her and suddenly everyone is okay with it? His voice was the basis of my drag performance of "Poor Unfortunate Souls" at our drama fair in High School. Trust me when I say as long as he camps it up good it works for the song (I won the "Audience's Choice award that night) Obviously he wouldn't play the Vanessa part, but neither would a female actress playing Ursula if they stay true to her animated appearance and cast a big girl. I would love to see it. Obviously the religious boycotts cut Beauty and the Beasts profits so much they have to worry about them... oh wait. No they didn't.

Jane Goldman is attached to write the screenplay.

It's a relief to know that Lin-Manuel will only write the lyrics for the new songs, and will leave the music to Alan Menken.Sotiris wrote:Menken talks about the status of the live-action adaptation.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Disney) Live-Action Film
I'm glad that's the extent of his work but even that might be too much for my taste, mainly just because the music of Hamilton and Moana are so different from The Little Mermaid's stylistically. But I wasn't a fan of Glen Slater's work either so this could be an improvement. We'll see I guess.D82 wrote:It's a relief to know that lin-Manuel will only write the lyrics for the new songs.Sotiris wrote:Menken talks about the status of the live-action adaptation.
