101 Dalmatians - Fall 2012 Blu-ray Disc

Post by Scamander »

Disney Germany announced yesterday, that 101 Dalmatians will be released in fall 2012 on Disney DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Seems like it is not longer part of the Diamond Edition line.

Keep in mind, that this is an official Disney homepage and that Disney Germany was also the first subsidiary who announced the release date and the Non-Diamond-Edition state of 'Fantasia' and 'Fantasia 2000'

If that is true, it seems rather fast when one thinks about how much time between releases these films normally have after being released last. 2008 was not that long ago!

It would seem odd to out out Cinderella and Dalmatians at the same time in the US, but I wouldn't mind having the title so soon.

Wow, this is one of the last things I would've expected to be released this year. I can't imagine what this means for the Diamond Edition line. Maybe, Aladdin is going to take it's place!?! Maybe Disney decided to cut down the Diamond Edition line back to 10 like the Platinum's were originally.

Overall, I'm happy with the news because I'm always happy to hear about new Disney Blu-rays. I'm also frustrated though because I don't know why this film is being released out of turn when films like The Rescuers, Hunchback, and Hercules keep getting the shaft.

I think it's way too soon. Dalmatians just came out around 3 years ago. I think The Rescuers, Hunchback, Hercules, and The Rescuers Down Under are all due a serious upgrade before bringing out Dalmatians again. None of them have had an upgrade since their original dvd release. I never understood why The Rescuers was not included neither in the Platinum series or the Diamond series. It hasn't even received special edition treatment! What's up with that? Same goes for the other titles.

According to DVDtalk.com, The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under went OOP the week of 10.16.2010

Do any one know about the Aspect Ratio at this point?

I believe 101 Dalmatians through The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh are 1.33:1 but for some odd reason they lopped off the top & bottom and stretched them with J-Book, A-Cats, and R-Hood for their 2nd DVD releases

There are three mock covers for the 101 Dalmatians on the French Disney Movie Rewards site. You can choose your favorite and the one with the most votes will be used as the official French cover. You need to have an account to vote though.

Which one is your favorite? Mine is #3. Minimal is the way to go.

That is a cool idea to let people/fans choose the cover!

They should do that with every release... :)

My choice would be either the first or second choice.

The third one would be better for a 2-movie collection imo

Yeah.. which makes no sense. At all.

If they start using clipart from the cheapquels Disney may lose me as a home video customer. I mean my god it's hard to avoid that crap.

The third one is nice, but it might get confused for the live-action film. I like the 2nd one except for Patch. The 1st one isn't that bad.

Maybe they're including Patch's London Adventure with the original, like they've done with a few other sequels lately? I never saw PLA, though I've seen most of the sequels before.

^Yeah I agree. I think the first one actually feels closest to what the movie represents, and it looks way better than the third.

I like the first one best, but they should add more puppies to fill in some of the white blank space. It would also help reiterate the title by having more than just nine dalmatians on the cover.

The third one would be a good steelbook or ironpack cover.
