Big news for you Power Rangers fans!:

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Mighty ... nned/16646

"The secret is out thanks to Home Media Magazine's story, so we can say at last that Shout! Factory has signed the deal to distribute DVDs (and Blu-rays, if they wish, although that's not initially expected) from Saban Capital Group's Saban Brands division. That includes the Haim Saban-created series Power Rangers, including all incarnations of the show from 1993 to 2009:
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
Power Rangers Zeo
Power Rangers Turbo
Power Rangers in Space
Power Rangers Lost Galaxy
Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue
Power Rangers Time Force
Power Rangers Wild Force
Power Rangers Ninja Storm
Power Rangers Dino Thunder
Power Rangers S.P.D.
Power Rangers Mystic Force
Power Rangers Operation Overdrive
Power Rangers Jungle Fury
Power Rangers RPM
The deal reportedly does NOT include the current incarnation of the show, Power Rangers Samurai, nor does it include the theatrical films spun off from the program (Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, whose rights have been retained all along by Fox Home Entertainment).

However, the deal DOES include other Saban programs, including Big Bad Beetleborgs (a.k.a. Beetleborgs Metallix), V.R. Troopers, and the short-lived live-action show Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. The HMM story by John Latchem reports that the "Initial rollout plans for the Saban are slated to begin in summer 2012, according to Shout! Factory, with single-season sets to start and potentially complete-series sets in the future."

Our understanding is that there's more to this than HMM is currently reporting, but then again this is just the initial announcement. Stay tuned and we'll try to bring you more, just as soon as we can!"

and the Press Release:

SHOUT! FACTORY AND SABAN BRANDS
ENTER STRATEGIC HOME ENTERTAINMENT ALLIANCE

Multi-Year Agreement Grants Shout! Factory
Exclusive Distribution Rights to Renowned
Live-Action Pop Culture Television Property

Power Rangers

Los Angeles, California (March 12, 2012) - Shout! Factory and Saban Brands announced a multi-year, multi-property alliance to bring Saban's iconic live-action pop culture series, including Power Rangers, to the home entertainment marketplace in the U.S and Canada. The announcement was made today by Shout! Factory's founding partners Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos; and Elie Dekel, President of Saban Brands.

The multi-year alliance provides Shout! Factory with exclusive home entertainment packaged media (DVD/Blu-ray) and select digital rights to Saban Brands' extensive catalog of properties including more than 700 episodes of Power Rangers (1993- 2009), 92 episodes of VR Troopers, 26 episodes of Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation, and 88 episodes of Beetleborgs for home entertainment releases and digital distribution across select entertainment platforms in North America.

"We are incredibly excited about this new relationship with Saban Brands. Power Rangers continues to stand as a global pop culture phenomenon to this day. We look forward to bringing these highly entertaining series with great packaging and extras to fans and on family home entertainment shelves," state Shout! Factory's founding partners in a joint statement.

"Our partnership with Shout! Factory is important and exciting news for our fans. Shout! Factory will provide unequaled access to archived content from Saban Brands," said Elie Dekel, President of Saban Brands. "Fans can enjoy past episodes they haven't seen, relive some of the exciting entertainment in these episodes, or even share them with a new generation of fans."

Shout! Factory plans an aggressive rollout of Saban Brands television properties beginning this summer 2012, including from individual programs as well as complete series. As excitement builds for these upcoming home entertainment product-lines, Shout! Factory and Saban Brands will announce additional news and activities in forthcoming months.

Following its introduction in 1993, Saban's Power Rangers quickly became the most watched children's television program in the United States. Emphasizing the importance of teamwork, responsibility and helping others by following the adventures of a group of ordinary young people who "morphed" into superheroes, the series was seen in more than 60 countries, translated into numerous languages, and was a mainstay in the most prominent international children's programming blocks.

When VR Troopers premiered in 1994, it was the first children's series to take viewers into a world of virtual reality. In this exciting action-packed live-action series, three seemingly ordinary teens face the challenge of saving the world from total domination by a powerful ruthless industrialist and his evil alter-ego. With the gift of "inter-reality travel" the teens utilize the power to transform into crime-fighting superheroes and enter the high-tech sphere of Virtual Reality. They employ their strengths, explosive martial arts skills and newfound superpowers to prevent the evil Grimlord and his mutant armies from escaping the virtual plane and entering the real world.

Memorable live-action adventure series Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation debuted in 1997 on popular kids network. The series continued the fun-filled saga of Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo, four genetically mutated turtles who have transformed into human sized, ninja-powered crime fighters living in the sewers of New York City. Soon the Ninja Turtles' world that they have come to know and love will change. If you thought Shredder was bad, wait until you meet the newest NT foe--Dragon Skull! It will take all the power of our four reptile heroes to combat this new villain, including the help from a new ninja turtle named Venus De Milo!

Premiered in 1996, popular weekly kids series Beetleborgs follows the exciting adventures of three ordinary kids Drew, Jo and Roland as they enter the supposedly haunted mansion after accepting a dare. Their lives changed forever when a magical spirit grants them their biggest wish - they get to find out what life is like as their favorite super heroes the Beetleborgs!

I'd like to point out that even though the deal doesn't include the theatrical films, Shout! still does have a licensing deal with Fox so... ;)

Anyway, is this the best DVD news of 2012 or what!?

I'll probably be FLAT broke, but... if not, I'm getting the first 2 seasons of Power Rangers for sure. Season 3 is a maybe. And after that, nothing.

MAYBE Zeo.

But that's absolutely it.

First three seasons for sure...

UNLESS,

they are going to use the transfers they used for the German complete collections, which are awful.

Hmm, I might have interest in the Turtles show, and MAYBE Beetleborgs, but it would be so far down on my wishlist that I'd probably never get it unless I found it for 3 bucks at Big Lots. I'd probably be willing to pick up some Power Ranger shows if I found a deal like that too, but the only reason I'd watch something like that is for cute girl Power Rangers. I'm not even sure which versions of the show fill that requirement, ha. Heck, maybe all of them...

Well- for the time being, those seasons are on Netflix. So, I'm not even thinking of buying Turbo, I'm BARELY thinking of getting Zeo, and Season 3 is an iffy buy as well since a 50-60 episode season set will probably be an extremely pricey item.

Oh yeah, I'm not getting 1 & 2 together. I wouldn't even think about it. I'll get the first one as a test to see how the transfers are and then, season 2.

And even then, I'll wait for reviews.

Yes... though I believe he didn't show up till the second season or something.

at the start of the second season three rangers were replaced and I actually liked the replacements better and were glad they made the movie with that cast.

Can't wait till we get more info on these releases.

I thought my wallet screamed in fear for a reason.....

I would suggest people buy up to Space at the very least, that season was pretty good and it wrapped up the Zordon era.

Personally I'm going to buy them all since I love the show.

Lucky you.

(Actually, I'm being serious. It's a horrible show. It's just impossible to never watch it again. If you were ever a fan, you will always return to it at some point. There's no escaping it.)

Have you ever seen Power Rangers RPM? I caught it during its ABC Kids run and I was shocked at how good it was. Yes, five teens in spandex still right rubber monsters daily, but there was a story and the acting didn't make me claw my eyes out. (Check out the first episode on Netflix to see if you like it or not.)

And your comments about MMPR gave me pause. I have the German sets, and I remember watching season 1 a few years back. It has aged terribly, and many times I had to fast-forward some scenes. Same with most of season 2... first half of season 3 was as enjoyable as I remembered.

And if memory serves me right, a Shout! representative says the episodes will be mostly sourced from the Netflix library (which means better PQ).

Untrue. Season 1, Episode 6: "Food Fight" does not. Or Episode 12: "Power Ranger Punks." Or Episode 13: "Peace, Love, and Woe." Or Episode 14: "Foul Play in the Sky." Or Episode 26: "Gung Ho!" Or Episode 38: "A Bad Reflection on You."

And several others feature a giant battle that the Rangers lose, so the ending features the battle finishing elsewhere, in Normal-Sized mode.

I'm extremely confused right now... is Time Life doing this so Shout! Factory...doesn't have to? Have they ever put out FULL season sets of shows before / is this a first for them? If they have done this kind of thing before, when? Is this mega-set meant to compete with Shout!'s upcoming sets / take money from them; what the hell are Saban thinking? Will Shout!'s sets have no bonuses if Time Life have 2 extra discs worth? Different bonuses? Will Shout!'s sets be more expensive or a lot cheaper due to this? Which studio will be able to boast better picture and sound quality? Why are Time Life assuming most fans of the original series actually want to buy this unbelievably, insultingly bloated set just to get their potentially better discs / extras pertaining to the seasons they want?
