The Princess and the Frog Discussion - Part III
Oh, okay. That kind of makes sense.
In other Princess and the Frog news, Disney has already begun the Oscar campaign with this "For Your Consideration" poster:
Not the best picture (Tiana is barely visible under Louis's tail), but I like how they're campaigning for it in more than just "best animated feature".

I have a bad feeling that they're going to keep the same six princesses on the calendar until they've made two more princess movies after Rapunzel. That way, all 12 will have their own page.

I think Disney is being realistic here. The Princess and the Frog may be clever in its story, characters and setting, but its meant to be a classic throwback to fairy tale classics. Disney is hopeful for its success but they know that what they made is a fun film for families, not Citizen Kane.Julian Carter wrote:Well obviously WDAS aren't good enough to make a Best Picture contender. I mean ... come on, there's Pixar - the animation gods. Ha ha ha.
Well, Walt Disney Animation is the only production company to ever get an animated film nominated for Best Picture, so the chances of a film like The Princess and the Frog aren't that imaginary.
And on their official awards page, they are asking for consideration in all categories:

I saw that.... it seems to be a re-packaging of the princess dolls from the "Princesses and Friends" sets. In those, each come with little mini-figurines of supporting characters, and most of the princes have dolls, too.Dream Huntress wrote:What song are they pushing for the nomination?
Oh, speaking of merchandise, they got this princess set on the D23 site:
It's one of the few were I've seen them include Mulan and Pocahontas.

That would explain why they all look so eerishly like Barbie.Margos wrote:I saw that.... it seems to be a re-packaging of the princess dolls from the "Princesses and Friends" sets. In those, each come with little mini-figurines of supporting characters, and most of the princes have dolls, too.
Probably "Down in New Orleans" can get a shot, we'll have to see what the competition is like.estefan wrote:Apparently, Disney is submitting four of them. "Never Knew I Needed" and "Down in New Orleans" are two of them. For the other two, "Dig a Little Deeper" and "Almost There" look like they could appeal most to Academy members.

Yeah, I'm trying to collect that particular set, and it's funny how much more on-model the princes look than the princesses. The two that I have so far are Belle and Adam, and she looks like Barbie while he looks exactly like he did in the film, same facial shape and features and everything!Dream Huntress wrote: That would explain why they all look so eerishly like Barbie.

I've met Tiana and Naveen a few times since they've begun appearing, and they are FUN characters to interact with. They have an excellent rapport, and seem just like they do on screen, from what I've seen of the movie. (The first half-hour and a few snippets from later in the film... mostly musical numbers.)
Has anyone else seen Tiana's Showboat Jubilee at WDW or Disneyland? The WDW version is currently my favorite thing to do at Magic Kingdom (and the way I'm choosing to deal with the fact that the film's soundtrack hasn't been released yet ). One of my best friends and I got picked to be on the showboat on the 3rd or so day of the show, and it was so much fun. (And I got PatF Mardi Gras beads as a souvenir of the event!)
