She is an AMAZING, SOPHISTICATED, and TALENTED woman. I've loved her since I was born. Hope to meet her one day. I plan to read her autobiography during Christmas break.

Ah, Julie Andrews. She is a class act through and through. I'm still annoyed about her throat surgery. Can you imagine how many great performances we're missing out on because of that? Ugh. She would have been wonderful on stage in "Follies".

I thought tsom was a reference to The Sound of Music. I wasn't sure though, since I couldn't recall you ever mentioning TSOM or Julie Andrews in your posts. Home is really good, though. You should read it for Julie's writing, if nothing else. It's beautiful. I want to pick up the book-on-CD sometime, just to hear Julie read it with her beautiful voice.

That dumb surgery. Imagine though, how the surgeon must of felt when he or she screwed it up. It's like they stole one of humanity's great treasures, and they definitely knew it. Most amazing, though, is the fact that Julie eventually got over it... I'm sure it still hurts her, but she loves music and acting, and she still performs.

These are some concert videos from Julie's recent "Gift of Music" Tour. If you haven't seen them, I definitely suggest looking at them. I nearly cried listening to Edelweiss for the first time.

I just listened to my Cinderella (1957) OCR CD again yesterday! Such a beautiful score and performance! I prefer it to the Lesley Anne Warren version even though that's the one I was raised on!
The Brandy version SUCKS! What were they thinking? (although the Prince was cute!)

Agreed (except for the Prince, I'm still bothered by the black queen + white king = asian prince logic)

I'm obsessed with the title song from Thoroughly Modern Millie (I need to get DVD so I can see the rest of the movie, Ive only watched a couple of the songs) right now. I listened to the Broadway cast recording and that broad can't hold a candle to Julie!

It is!!! I'm glad you noticed it. Yeah, Sound of Music is my favoritest movie in the entire world. My parents have said that it was the first movie I ever watched, and I kept on playing it and playing it.

My school's library has it in this special room. I guess Julie is that special to have her autobiography in a special room. Anyway, I read a couple of pages and I like her style. My plan is to check it out and read it during Christmas break.

My school's library also has a recent biography about her which was published this year. I plan on checking that out too during Christmas break. It is written by Richard Stirling. It even has something about her being in "Enchanted," so it is very recent.

I LOVE the title song to Thoroughly Modern Millie (that's really the only song I listen to except for Carol Channing's Muzzy songs when I'm feeling campy!)
And, you're right, Flanger, Sutton Foster (the stage Millie) can't hold a candle to Jules! Although I think she was better live, rather than just listening to her on the OC CD.

I also adore Le Jazz Hot from Victor/Victoria!

I'm sure it was more of the colour-blind casting done for the movie rather than anything related to biology and genetics. Plus, we could always assume he was adopted. :P

Anyway, back to Julie. She's a goddess. That's all that needs to be said.

I must say, Julie has the best luck in the world! She was in the most watched television special (Cinderella); was in the most successful Broadway show in the 1950s (My Fair Lady), was in Disney's biggest hit (Mary Poppins), and was in the most successful movie musical and third highest grossing film of all time (adjusted to inflation of course) (The Sound of Music). Also, who can say that they won the Golden Globes for Best Actress in a musical or comedy twice in a role, and won an Oscar for their first film and was nominated the next year for their third film.

I heard that she was considered for the role of Mrs. Potts in "Beauty and the Beast". Is that true?

I think it's worthy of noting that Julie Andrews will be replacing Walter Cronkite this year as the host of Vienna Philharmonic Concert on PBS this New Year's Day.

http://julieandrewsonline.com/news/2008 ... ec_08.html

It's only for the American Broadcast, and while the concert will be released on DVD, I've been told that the host is never on it. The broadcast starts at 8:00 EST and ends at 9:30 EST on PBS New Year's Day.

I'm reading "Home" now, and it's simply amazing! I can't put it down. The chapter I'm on now is when "My Fair Lady" premieres on Broadway.

SPOILER

For those who have read it, did Julie lose her virginity to Neil McCallum? It's implied, but I don't want to think the wrong thing. Thanks!

Thanks! It's weird imagining Maria von Trapp or Mary Poppins doing that, but hey, we're all human.

Anyway, I finished "Home" the other day, and it was a beautifully written autobiography! I recommend it to everyone! The sad thing is that I didn't want it to end. I pray that she'll write a sequel to it! Also, I wish she stated somewhere why her marriage with Tony didn't work. It seems like she loved him dearly and probably still does. Oh well. i guess I'll just have to wait till the sequel comes out.

Tomorrow, I'm going to start reading another book on her. It is the most recent biography on Julie called "Julie Andrews: An Intimate Biography." It was published this year, and from the looks of it, the book seems to mention her work in Enchanted, so I guess it's going to contain everything from her birth to present day.

I'm almost positive that Julie stated she was writing at least one other book, maybe even two more. I still need to finish Home, actually. :P

That is great news! It was good reading her opinions on Rex Harrison, PL Travers, Rodgers and Hammerstein, etc. I would love to read what she thought about making The Princess Diaries, the Shrek sequels, and Enchanted.

If you didn't catch the concert last night, you really missed something. Julie was beautiful, although she didn't have many sequences. She seemed like an old friend who's just come back from Vienna and is telling you about it's musical history. And her voice is better than ever, and I swear, that's not just some crazy fan wish, it's true!

The best part was the Vienna Philharmonic and the Strauss music. I'm not much of a "music-person", but I fell in love with the waltzes and polkas. And the conductor, Daniel Barenboim, was absolutely hilarious during the Farewell Waltz.

The only part of the program that I didn't like was a small bit related to Julie. For two segments they had her against a green screen, and it just really sucked the reality out of it... But overall I really enjoyed it. Julie or not, I'm watching it next year, too.

I like her quite a bit. She's also gone on to become, for example, the most professional presence on such disasters as the Princess Diary films. She's kind of being hired on all her movies to be their version of Kathy Bates or Sigourney Weaver.

I also find her sternness in Mary Poppins to be pretty remarkable. Why are figures like that always supernatural? Too good to be human? They'd make excellent parents in a family feature. Be something of a change from the same tired, sassy and fashionably-disorganized copies of Phylicia Rashad from The Cosby Show.
