In case anyone is interested..

Betty White will have a guest spot on 'Martha'.

November 22, 2005

Betty White

As Rose Nylund on the sitcom The Golden Girls, Betty White won laughs and accolades. No less amusing in person, Betty joins Martha and talks about the newly released third season DVD of the memorable series, answers questions from fans, and learns how to make a beautiful pumpkin pie for the holidays.

Betty is always the one promoting the seasons. She was on Ellen May 4th and everyone got a free Golden Girls Season Two DVD. I wish the other girls went on the show with her. :P

Corrected. :)

Now!

I stayed up until 3am writing it and Luke two hours later getting it posted. The things we do for the Golden Girls, huh? (I slept through my first class too ). So enjoy. :-P :-P

Aaron's also working on a review of the Lifetime Intimate Portraits Series disc, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

I can't find The Lifetime Intimate Portrait Series anywhere. Where did you buy your set Aaron?

I went on the late-morning of release and bought the one and only copy that Best Buy had buried between GG season sets.

I know we have some big "Golden Girls" fans around here, so I thought I'd share this picture of three of the girls gathered at a New York Barnes & Noble to sign copies of the Season 3 DVD:

I know what you're thinking. They can gather together to promote the DVD, why not to talk about the show - on-camera or via audio commentary? :headshake:

Actually I was thinking "Man, Bea Arthur's hands look quite...well, there must be a word for it....hold on now, let me think...clay-like?"

But the other one is definitely true! They're going OUT OF THEIR WAY just to go to NYC and do some DVD signings, which shows they're willing to get together and do a few bonus feature-worthy interviews and commentaries! If only Disney just schlepped them on a plane and had them in the same room for a day or so...

Thanks for the picture, Luke!

I must say, I'm so thankful to have my favorite television show of all time on DVD. I'm glad that they are releasing them, and those of us who enjoy the show, will be able to enjoy them anytime we want.

I just wish that they would pay the show the proper respect it should have, and produce bonus features that are really worth while!

What a difference a make-up artist can make! Look at these fairly recent pictures of Rue, compared to the ones posted above:

I don't get why The Golden Girls gets a barebones treatment, yet Grey's Anatomy gets a bus load of bonus features.

Cause GG is 20 years old, Grey's Anatomy is like 20 weeks old. So it's easier to find stuff 20 weeks old than it is 20 years old?

Still, when shows OLDER than GG can get really good bonus features (I Love Lucy, Star Trek, Mary Tyler Moore come to mind) but a gem like Golden Girls is relegated to useless bonus features (fashion commentary? quizzes?? highlight clips from episodes we just watched???), something's not right in the world...

Maybe they aren't including a big bonus feature because there isn't enough disc space. If they wanted to include something like "The Golden Girls Greatest Moments" they would have to add a fourth disc.

Ahh, so that's it, they're cheap! They don't wanna make another disc!

Mary Tyler Moore's first season had the series on 3 discs and a 4th disc devoted to all the bonus features.

Or they could do what many TV-on-DVD sets do. Spread the features throughout the discs. Instead of having 6 episodes per disc, they can probably do 4, and have room for some nice short featurettes. Of course, this means the 3-disc sets will most likely turn into 5-disc sets or something, but if that's what it takes to get bonus features, I say they should go for it.
