Ali, I agree I with you on Umbridge, I was so impressed with her ability to make me actually HATE a ficitional character so much. I mean, I actually got angry while reading it.
As for the extra detail, overall I agree with you. I just think that the hook in GoF comes a little too late in the book- the Quidditch World Cup lasts just a little too long. Before then, the only thing to make you interested is that it's Harry Potter. It's my favorite book, though, so I'm not complaining.

1. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - It had a lot of dramatic scenes that just kept your heart racing. If a book can make you do that, then the author is VERY good. Not to mention, Luna Lovegood became my all-time favorite HP character with this.
2. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - Although I thought Slughorn was a pathetic character to introduce, she definitely included a lot of character development that I've been waiting for. Voldemort, Voldemort's mother, Draco and Narcissa all in one. But, is it just me, or does Ron get more annoying/insensitive as the books go on? And I hate the newest couples (Bill/Fleur and Harry/Ginny).
3. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - There was something about this book that got to me like the following didn't. I think it was all the urgency and the terror that flooded the school as people were attacked.
4. Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban - I love how she expands on Scabbers 3 books after he's introduced (and is seemed unimportant). Always manages to catch me off-guard.
5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - I thought it was okay, but I didn't like a lot of the new characters and I found it way too easy for Harry to get through the 3 tasks.
6. Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone - It is surely not a bad book. In fact, it's probably a great beginning. But a great beginning is often followed by an even greater sequel.

Listening to most often lately:
Ariana Grande ~ "we can't be friends (wait for your love)"
Ariana Grande ~ "imperfect for you"
Kacey Musgraves ~ "The Architect"
