Your Favorite (Non-Disney) Websites!!!

Post by blackcauldron85 »

I believe that there's already a thread for your favorite Disney websites, but this thread is to post some of our favorite non-Disney websites!

If you've ever chatted with me in the chat room here, you may have heard (well, read) of me talking about the "food blog".

Cheap Eats blog:
http://www.bloglander.com/cheapeats/

It's a website about buying and making food on a budget. It's addictive. I have wasted many an hour on that website.

Oh No They Didn't:
http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/

It's a celebrity gossip blog. It's extremely addictive. Sometimes they do post about Disney talent, so sometimes it's Disney-related. (FYI- some people use non-PG rated language in the comments section, so beware!)

Rip-Off Report:
http://www.ripoffreport.com/default.asp

This website is handy when you're looking for a job. Often on job websites (like CareerBuilder, Monster, and Craigslist), there are scams listed. If you're suspicious, you can search for a company on here and see if anyone has written about it, to see if it's a scam or not.

Food-Notes:
http://www.food-notes.com/

I just discovered this website while on the previously-mentioned Cheap Eats blog. It looks wonderful!

Survey Spot:
http://www.surveyspot.com/

It's a great survey website, and you actually see cash rewards accumulate (as opposed to many other survey websites).

Harris Poll:
http://www.harrispollonline.com/

This is another great survey website- I've been a member since I was about 16. You don't see cash rewards pile up, but they have a great catalog, and it's not hard to have points accumulate.

PineCone Research:
http://www.pineconeresearch.com/

The last of the survey websites that I'll post. This one also provides some good monetary rewards. These are the only 3 survey websites that I'm staying a member of, due to actually seeing rewards.

I'm sure that I'l post more as I think of them. Does anyone else have any favorite websites that you want to post to share?

http://www.RetroJunk.com
This is a great site for looking up TV shows, movies, and commercials you remember watching as a kid. There are also message boards to discuss memories of being a kid as well as current events.

http://www.ydkj.com
You Don't Know Jack is probably one of the funniest trivia game shows I have ever played. It's really funny when you select the wrong answer.

http://www.dvdactive.com
This is the site I usually use to look up when current movies are coming out on DVD.

http://www.Razzies.com
A good site to look up what movies are the worst. they also predict what movies they think will suck.

My bookmark is divided into 4 categories: Animation, Humor, Videogame and Personal pages. Here are some of my faves:

Pretty much everything in the Cheeseburger Network:
LOLcats
LOLdogs

Homestar Runner

For daily animation news I like to go to Animated News.

I also like videogames, so for daily Nintendo news I go to Go Nintendo. They post news nonstop!

I think that's all for now.

WordReference.com
As a student of French (and German), I find this highly useful.

dict.leo.org
Useful for German.

Animated News and Views
Okay, so kinda Disney related, but you know... ;)

SurLaLuneFairyTales.com
I always go through phases of writing a novel (a mix of political satire and fairy-tale...similar to Peter Pan or The Wizard of Oz), and this site, with its many annotated fairy-tales, provides an inspiration of sorts.

DVD Movie Guide (dvdmg.com)
The other DVD site that I frequent quite a bit.

AwkwardFamilyPhotos.com
A fairly new discovery...there was a funny family photo involving a dad wearing an awful sweater and a pair of Lederhosen, but it seems to have been taken down. Although they 'aint as bad as this family!

The University of Nottingham's website
Generally helpful for my studies/uni life (which this time next year will be over  ).

And some obvious ones...

YouTube
Come on, we all love it.

Facebook
Oh, I love and hate this. On the one hand, it's fun and a good way of keeping in contact, in other ways, it's made to create petty drama. :p

Wikipedia
I'm a complete trivia addict. So this is made for me. ;)

Various news sites
Ones I look at mostly: BBC, The Guardian, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Le Monde

Amazon
Pass away an idle hour, impulse buying and adding useless stuff to one's wishlist. ;)

Thanks for sharing that- I had seen some photos from there but didn't know that there was a website (the pics were in an email). Hours of entertainment ahead for me. :)

Rather than posting a list here is a printscreen of my bookmarks toolbar.

ImageToolbar Links by Julian Carter, on Flickr

Unfortunately Michael Sporn passed away years ago, and his "Splog" is no longer updated. I learned so much from his blog. When I read that he'd died my jaw literally hit the keyboard. It felt like someone I knew had died!

There's a also a link to the TAG blog there, which is now all but abandoned. Steve Hulett used to post information tidbits of in-production films at WDAS and other unionised studios. I loved them! Alas, his replacement doesn't do that.

The Mark Mayerson blog has gone silent too.
