This list is such a joke since I never take real note of most of the actors and actresses I like. It'd be easier to do favorite performances instead. So, expect this list to change about a hundred times. Also, these choices in no way whatsoever forgive the bad movies they have or may have been in.

Favorite Actors
0. Harvey Keitel
0. Danny DeVito
0. Bill Murray
0. Tim Curry
0. Sam Waterston
0. Balthazar Getty
0. Miguel Ferrer
0. Elvis Presley
0. Austin Pendleton
0. Bruce McGill

Favorite Actresses
0. Alicia Silverstone
0. Fairuza Balk
0. Jennifer Saunders
0. Björk
0. Catherine O'Hara
0. Sigourney Weaver

I'm going to have to come back later, it's taking way too long to come up with this.

Oh, this is fun! But I couldn't possibly rank them in a top 10. They own have their own unique qualities; and they come from such different time periods, which makes comparisons difficult.

Actors:

James Stewart (Anatomy of a murder; Rear Window)
Humphrey Bogart (Treasure of the Sierra Madre; Casablanca)
Cary Grant (His Girl Friday; Suspicion)
Marlon Brando (The Godfather; Apocalypse Now)
Robert De Niro (Raging Bull; The Deer Hunter; The Godfather Part II)
Al Pacino (The Godfather-trilogy; Dog Day Afternoon; Scent of a Woman)
Dustin Hoffman (The Graduate; Midnight Cowboy; Wag the Dog)
Kevin Spacey (The Usual Suspects; American Beauty)
Michael Douglas (Falling Down; The Game; Wall Street)
Sean Penn (Carlito's Way; Mystic River)

I'm sorry for the all-'white' list.

It's harder for me to list actresses. I'm really not a 'macho' or mysogynistic man, but I just tend to not remember them most of the times. Maybe it's because most of the time, they sadly get reduced to playing "the hero's wife".

Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking; Thelma & Louise)
Meryl Streep (Lions for Lambs; Sophie's Choice)
Scarlett Johansson (A Love Song for Bobby Long; Lost in Translation)
Natalie Portman (Léon; V for Vendetta)
Cate Blanchett (I'm not there, playing Bob Dylan)
Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind; Requiem for a Dream; Blood Diamond)
Penélope Cruz (Volver; Abre Los Ojos; Vicky Christina Barcelona)

You're *so* absolutely right on this. And not only that, but what about the white-black ratio? All lists in this thread are (almost) exclusively white. And all of them are all-Hollywood-centred. (Mine too, by the way.)

I think of favorite actors as being those who, if you saw a commercial for something new and they were in it, that you'd want to see the film simply because they were in it. Suspending disbelief in case of some actors who are no longer among the living. I'm sure I'll have forgot someone, but oh well, here goes.

Actors (no order)
Leonardo Dicaprio
Brad Pitt
Timothee Chalamet
Ian McKellan
Eddie Redymayne
Tom Holland
John Goodman
Chadwick Boseman
Evan Peters
Chris Hemsworth
Jensen Ackles
Rupert Grint
Daniel Bruhl
Tim Curry
Jared Padalecki
Charlie Hunnam
Joaquin Phoenix
Chris Colfer
Freddie Highmore
Dane Dehaan
Michael Fassbender
Ezra Miller
Woody Harrelson

Actresses (no order)
Angela Lansbury
Sally Field
Cate Blanchett
Felicity Huffman
Meryl Streep
Judy Parfitt
Angelina Jolie
Julie Walters
Maggie Smith
Charlotte Rae
Octavia Spencer
Saoirse Ronan
Tilda Swinton
Pam Ferris
Imelda Staunton
Katherine McGregor
Phylicia Rashad
Emma Watson
Nicole Kidman
Kathy Bates
Toni Collette
Marcia Cross
Emma Thompson
Rachel Weisz
Miriam Margoyles
Bea Arthur
Jean Stapleton
Patricia Rutledge
Laurie Metcalfe
Amy Adams
Melissa McCarthy
Goldie Hawn
Bette Midler
Kirsten Dunst
Angela Bassett
Carol Burnett
Margaret Rutherford
Annie Potts
Bette Davis
Queen Latifah
Megan Mullally
Sandra Oh
Mindy Kaling
Salma Hayek
America Ferrera
Kate McKinnon
Amy Schumer
Jennifer Lawrence
Diana Rigg
Michelle Williams

This was a mixture of film and TV actors. I chose not to include actors who are primarily do voicework. Maybe there should be a favorite voice actors thread, although making a list for that would take forever.

I’m only going to do the actresses this go around since truthfully I’ve always responded to their performances a lot more than the ones by men. Ranking them is hard, Julie Andrews will forever be number one. But over the pandemic I rediscovered Ingrid Bergman and Bette Davis— somehow I never appreciated what powerhouses they were.

1. Julie Andrews
2. Katharine Hepburn
3. Ingrid Bergman
4. Bette Davis
5. Judy Garland
6. Vivien Leigh
7. Elizabeth Taylor
8. Audrey Hepburn
9. Deborah Kerr
10. Marlene Dietrich
