I wonder if this controversy over filming for the sequel remaining in Georgia despite the voting rights law there will affect the film's performance... I would normally say no, but with the franchise already having lost Boseman as the main star, I think this franchise is in a very precarious position now.

I heard about the news, but I don't know how much backlash Coogler's decision has received. His explanation sounded reasonable to me, but I don't know much about the whole situation. Anyway, I don't think it'll affect the film's performance. The first film was really successful and I think Chadwick Boseman's tragic death will only make people more curious to see the next film and how they'll pay tribute to him in it.

As long as Coogler is sincere in his reasoning, to keep the staff in Georgia employed (I read the article a few days ago but that was what stuck with me), then I suppose that is a fair reason. While trying to boycott the Georgia government (I agree with not wanting to support a hateful government, to not give them tax $ and whatever else with the film productions) by taking film production elsewhere, it surely is hurting the people that depend on film production there to put food on the table.

I like it, although that title sounds like it would be more fitting for a third / final film. But, who knows, maybe they're thinking this could turn out to be the final BP film?

Here's also a related article I saw the other day:

Michael B. Jordan says it’s unlikely he’ll return for Black Panther 2, but ‘never say never’

Yes, that's what I meant. I'm not always in favor of boycotts for that reason. Sometimes innocent people are also affected. I don't know what's best in this particular situation, but I understand Ryan Coogler's decision.

I thought the same when I saw it. I hope there's at least a trilogy, but given that they're not recasting Chadwick Boseman's character, maybe it is the last Black Panther film after all. It's a good title, but I'm not sure if I like it or not for the reason you mentioned.

I agree that the subtitle is more fitting for a third film that's supposed to close an arc. I'm sure there's going to be a third film, Disney's not going to let go of a billion-dollar franchise that easily, but perhaps due to Boseman's passing they decided to end this chapter of Wakanda earlier than they would have otherwise.

Smart. She's the most worthwhile character in the franchise now Boseman's gone and Jordan's character's dead. Gurira's a great actress, too--her character was one of the best on TWD, too.

I knew she would return, but it's nice to have official confirmation. She was one of my favorite characters in the film. I wonder if Daniel Kaluuya will also be back.

It's been confirmed there will be at least two LGBT characters in the film.
Michaela Coel will be playing a queer character with Aneka, a captain and combat instructor in the Dora Milaje who is in love with fellow warrior Ayo (Florence Kasumba).

No idea how they'll salvage this franchise without Boseman, but I'll at least see this one. Not so sure about a hypothetical third film though.

From talking with other fans, it seems like they will be attending the film out of memoriam for Boseman first, then fans of the series second. I'm not saying that's wrong, and I think his absence will play a large role in the movie given it's first trailer. I just don't expect it to be the main focus, and despite Letitia Wright's anti-vax views, I hope she can carry as much as they are expecting. Personally, I think she was great in the first film so I look forward to her in this one.

I'm also a Namor fan, and I think Tenoch Huerta is fantastic casting (as well as him being really great to look at). So really I have a lot of anticipation for it.
