Eragon

Post by numba1lostboy »

There is an Eragon movie coming this summer. My friends who have read the books say they are great...even rivaling Harry Potter. Being like the biggest HP fan out there, that makes me curious. I've also heard that the books don't really make sense.

Are they worth a read? What are they about? And, in your opinion, will the movie be worth reading the book for?

-Thanks

Mod edit: According to the IMDb the film is scheduled for a December 15th release in the U.S.

I didn't even knew that the movie is coming to theatres this summer. :o

My teacher also read that book and she said it was excellent. Right now, she's reading the sequel of Eragon called "Eldest" and she told me that the sequel is better than the first. Since I'm a "Harry Potter" reader (I've read those from 1-4. I will read 5 and 6 in the summer, I hope), I'll probably read Eragon and see if it was good.

Well, I thought it was comming in December/November. Either way, fantasy films are doing very well lately, and its only a matter of time before that is backlashed on one of the fantasy films. It wont likely be HP, as 4 made even more than 3 & 2, and it won't likely be the Narnia sequel. However, I do think Eragon could be the film this impending backlash is going to occur on. But, I could be wrong. I predict about 140 mil.

Well it might be coming in the winter season...I just speculated...sorry.

I cannot beleive you've made it this long without reading HP 5 and 6!!!!Have people spoiled the ending for you? I really hope not, because that would stink...

Actually, no. The truth is that I was busy, working on school work and didn't have time to check out HP 5 and 6.

This movie is coming to theaters on December 15th.

A lot of kids at my boys' elementary school are reading this, or have read this. I just bought the book a few weeks ago. Looks like good stuff - I'll start reading it next, and let you all know.

So... Anyone planning on seeing this?

I got all interested in the trailer due to my new found love for Avril Lavigne's new song (Keep Holding On -- From the OST) and I found myself curious. As far as fantasy films go, this one looks pretty good. I might just check it out.

Wow, totally don't remember starting this thread.

Anyhoo,
I really want to see this film. Sadly, I haven't read the book yet, but I want to. I'm in the middle of Peter And The Star-Catchers right now (which, incidentally, is in the early stages of becoming a movie).

But I have high hopes for this film. The one thing I don't like is how the dragon's wings look like bird wings. I just don't like it... :P

I plan on seeing it sometime next weekend probably. I've started reading the book several times but something always comes up where I don't finish it. I remember the author visiting my school when the book first came out and said he would like to get a movie done but it would probably be low budget. I guess he didn't know that Eragon would be a success as it is. :)

I actually really disliked the book. It felt too much like any other generic fantasy novel, combining elements of "Star Wars" and "Lord of the Rings", and very little of anything I hadn't read elsewhere.

It'll probably be #1 this weekend but I'm gonna wait on this movie as everything I've read says stinkeroo. 13% on rottentomatoes & every other reviewer I've read really trashed it. I really had hopes but I'll wait to hear what more people say about it. With ticket prices raised just a few weeks ago at our local cineplex I've gotta be convinced it's worth the $$$.

Unfortunately I passed up a chance to go see Casino Royale for a third time and went to see "Eragon" and it was a real bad movie. It was like you were watching a video game and someone else had the controller. The story jumped around, the dialogue sounded like it was written by a bunch of 'high' teenagers, and the acting was very wooden. If there is ever an award for the most lines said keeping a straight face, then Jeremy Irons should win it hands down. His dialogue was very horribly written. The only saving grace for this movie was Rachel Weisz as the voice of the Dragon, and of course the nice special effects.

I agree. As I was reading it, I thought it was just an amateurish Lord of the Rings-wannabe (and I don't say that about everything that has dwarves, elves and humans in it).

As far as movies go, it might be decent. Some books are better as movies. Although, seeing the commercial of a mentally communicating Saphira doesn't give me high hopes. The poster looks nice though.
