I wish we had heard more of the music from the movie, it was a bit anticlimactic for me. But otherwise online the reception seems to be very positive and I’m still looking forward to our first full trailer as this was just a teaser. It’s too bad we don’t get those 4 minute long trailers like they did back in the old days!

Yes, it seems everyone loved the teaser on Broadway World. But I don't mind having gotten a shorter teaser than 4 minutes. I like being more surprised when I see the full trailer, or the whole film!

I could have been more excited about this film if it had had different lead actors.

With the mediocre In the Heights, the god-awful Cinderella, and the very poor reviews for Dear Evan Hansen, I am seriously hoping that West Side Story will get us out of the bad-musical slump of 2021. (Though I do still need to see Respect and Annette, the latter of which at least sounds creative.) I wish we could've heard Ansel sing a bit, but I guess we can't have everything in a trailer.

Why is everything so dimly lit and the colors so muted? Also, Zegler's accent sounds fake and it's distracting.

A longer trailer than I'd seen prior aired during the Tony's last night. Of course it ws never going to pass the original coming out the gate, but I wasn't really impressed with any of the actors in the trailer other than David Alvarez. Tony in particular is very weaksauce. Hopefully they'll at least be able to sing well.

I haven't seen Dear Evan Hansen or In the Heights yet; to me, those are the biggest surprises as far as them not being well-received. Both looked decent from the advertisements and with Miranda's involvement in the latter, I would've thought it would've been raved over even if it had been terrible. In comparison, for this and Cinderella, both films' ads pretty much tell you not to expect great things coming into it; WSS could still surpass expectations, but Cinderella didn't, unfortunately.

Well, In the Heights was raved over by critics. It has a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes. It's audiences who rejected it. Dear Evan Hansen was trashed mainly because its premise was deemed too problematic and we can't have that in our overly PC culture anymore.

Good to know about ItH. The critics are so predictable that way.

The trailer gave me chills in the end when I finally watched it on my computer. The poster I find clever and awesome.

Hey, in the original Broadway play, did only girls sing "America" and they added guys in the 1961 film?

Also, in the original play vs the film, were "Cool" and "Officer Krupke" in different spots?

In the 1957 play, America was an all-girl number. It was originally supposed to include the Shark men, but Jerome Robbins wanted to stage an all-female dance number. The men were brought back in for the 1961 film. This new version includes the men in America, but the lyrics are a hybrid of the 1957 version and the 1961 version.

In the 1957 play, Cool came before Gee Officer Krupke, and the 1961 movie switched their positions. I'm not sure what this movie version will do, but I attended a panel with screenwriter Tony Kushner and he said his version skews more to the 1957 song order, so Tonight is sung before America and I Feel Pretty comes after The Rumble, so I guess Cool is before Krupke.

I've always enjoyed the all-girls version of "America" more than the version from the first film. And knowing that this new film was going to lean more toward the original show, I was hoping we'd get an all-girls version instead. But oh well. I'm still excited for this.

The new film will use both versions of America lyrics. The problem is the all-girl version is more negative toward Puerto Ricans, and also without the boys in the number, the Shark men barely have anything to do musically besides the Quintet.
