Netflix is making an animated movie bassed on the book The Magician's Elephant by Newbery Medalist Kate DiCamillo.

DiCamillo also wrote The Tale of Despereaux, the movie will be directed by Wendy Rogers who ha worked on the visual effects of the Dreamworks movie Shrek and was FX supervisor on The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian .

The producer is Julia Pistor who produced The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie from 2004 and Sydney-based Animal Logic (Happy Feet) is producing the animation.

The voice cast includes famus names like Dawn French(French and Saunders), Aasif Mandvi(Spider Man 2), Miranda Richardson(Sleepy Hollow(1999)), Cree Summer( A Different World) and Lorraine Toussaint(Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2019)

The plot is this
The film will follow Peter, who is searching for his long-lost sister, as he crosses paths with a fortune teller in the market square. His one one question is: is his sister still alive? The answer, that he must find a mysterious elephant and the magician who will conjure it, sets Peter off on a journey to complete three seemingly impossible tasks that will change the face of his town forever.

The film joins Netflix’s fast-growing original slate of upcoming animated features which includes the fall 2021 comedy Back to the Outback directed by Clare Knight and Harry Cripps, Richard Linklater’s Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Adventure, Chris Williams’ The Sea Beast, Henry Selick’s Wendell & Wild, Nora Twomey’s My Father’s Dragon, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, and an Aardman sequel to Chicken Run.

I wonder if Richardson will be in the Chicken Run sequel :?
