I'm really excited for this, especially with how disappointed I was when In The Heights got delayed until next year. Oh well, maybe at least West Side Story can have all the musical movie glory this year. :D

I don't think that would happen due to how Spielberg cast this film with some really talented people who have solid singing abilities. Also dubbing in musical films rarely happen anymore so there isn't anything to worry about. :)

I actually would prefer dubbing to autotune--that's just a general statement about film musicals these days. But if you're right, Musical Master, neither will be in this, which is even better.

Dubbing actors in musicals was a lot more common in the '60s and '50s than today. Nowadays, filmmakers are a lot more likely to hire actors to sing their own parts in movie musicals. Even Disney no longer casts a separate person to do the singing voice for their animated characters, like they did with Aladdin and Jasmine or Simba and Nala (although Simba never made sense to me, since Matthew Broderick is a well known Broadway musical performer).

The last time I can remember an actor not singing their character's song in a movie musical was Minnie Driver in "Phantom of the Opera" and that was more because they needed someone who sounded like a trained opera singer. Driver still sang the end credits song.
"There are two wolves and they are always fighting. One is darkness and despair. The other is light and hope. Which wolf wins? Whichever one you feed." - Casey Newton, Tomorrowland

Matthew said that Disney decided not to use his singing voice because he couldn't "pull off" the pop-style singing: https://youtu.be/1_5LVSws3-Q?t=57

I was more referring to live-action film musicals. Yes, animated films often cast people who can sing for their parts, unlike most live-action film musicals these days. I would've much preferred they dubbed for people like Emma Thompson, Mena Massoud, Emma Watson, Melissa McCarthy, etc.

I was hoping this would still come out this year. :(

Aw, man! I was hoping it would still come out this year, too. Even on Disney+.

Thank God! I'm glad it got moved to next year. This movie deserves to be seen on the big screen and I'm happy it'll still get that opportunity (safely).

The first trailer will be released on Sunday during the Oscars:
Today, the studio announced in its advertising sellout of the 93rd Oscars telecast that talent from various upcoming films will share their favorite movie theater experience and introduce their latest film, which will seamlessly transition into the pic’s exclusive trailer running adjacent to the broadcast. “This format reinforces the theme of this year’s show (Bring Your Movie Love) and celebrates the long-awaited return of the in-person movie-going experience,” reads today’s press release.

Adweek reported that Ariana DeBose who plays Anita in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming 20th Century Studios/Amblin release West Side Story will introduce the trailer for that Dec. 10 release, while Disney songwriter and Mary Poppins Returns star Lin-Manuel Miranda will toss to his Warner Bros./HBO Max June 11 movie In the Heights, and Questlove, the Oscars’ musical director, will talk about his upcoming Searchlight/Hulu July 2 docu Summer of Soul.

So excited for tonight’s trailer! Pretty much the only reason I’m watching the Oscars (award shows in the age of Covid are too depressing).

I didn't like the teaser. They tried making it tense and dramatic, but it wasn't executed well. The choice of music wasn't suitable either. Visually, the film looks a little muted and sterile. Hopefully, the full trailer will be better.

I loved the trailer! The realism will make the story much sadder I think.

I thought it looked almost like a TV movie?

I agree with Sotiris, except I will say the film still looks like it will be good, it just didn't get a good teaser trailer. It was still beautiful, though.
