Which Music Albums Did You Add to Your Collection in 2010?

Post by AwallaceUNC »

This thread continues the long tradition we have here of posting our end-of-year list of new music we added to our collection during the year. In the past, we've called it "Which CDs Did You Get?" but with digital albums ever on the rise, I thought the name change to "Music Albums" would be more appropriate.

Feel free to consult our New CD Thread, Volume 4 to assist you (if you've been using it throughout the year, of course): http://www.dvdizzy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26012

Self-Portrait
New Morning
Pat Garret & Bill the Kid- soundtrack
Planet Waves
Blood on the Tracks

And for Christmas, I got Dylan's latest 'Bootleg Series' album, and a second-hand original 1966 LP of 'Blonde on Blonde'.

Hey, another Sinatra fan! Cool! 8)

I'll admit Dylan and Sinatra are polar opposites, but I love them both very much.

I thought this could be used as a “Albums You've Bought This Year” thread despite this having been for 2010 specifically. For me, this year so far (I included EPs):

A Wrinkle in Time soundtrack
Aida OBC
Alessia Cara ~ The Pains of Growing Up
Carrie Underwood ~ My Gift
Celine Dion ~ Courage
Conan Gray ~ Kid Krow (+ Sunset Season)
David Archuleta ~ Therapy Sessions
Hailey Whitters ~ The Dream
Harry Styles ~ Fine Line
Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon ~ Namesake
Jordin Sparks ~ Sounds Like Me
Katy Perry ~ Smile
Kelsea Ballerini ~ Kelsea
Kesha ~ High Road (+ two of her older albums, Animal and Cannibal)
Kree Harrison ~ Chosen Family Tree
Lady Gaga ~ Chromatica
Lari White ~ Wishes
LeAnn Rimes ~ Remnants
Maddie & Tae ~ The Way It Feels
Mallary Hope ~ Love Lives On
Mariah Carey ~ The Rarities
Mary Poppins Returns soundtrack
Mickey Guyton ~ Bridges
Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure: Plus Est En Vous soundtrack
Rayvon Owen ~ Las Virginia
Sara Bareilles ~ More Love: Songs From Little Voice Season One
Sara Evans ~ Copy That
Steven Universe: The Movie + Vol. 2
Taylor Swift ~ folklore
Tenille Arts ~ Love, Heartbreaks & Everything Inbetween
The Chicks ~ Gaslighter
The Highwomen ~ The Highwomen
Troye Sivan ~ In a Dream
Zealyn ~ A Weekend in Maine

Also, still to come this year for me: the Disney Goes Classical album, Sam Smith' s Love Goes, the Queen + Adam Lambert Live album, and Ariana Grande just announced she's dropping an album this month. Leona Lewis is making another Christmas album. And Miley Cyrus *finally* gave her album a release date for November; unfortunately, I don't think the album is going to be as good a project as it began when "Mother's Daughter" was first released. When that song didn't do as well as they wanted, I think the label scrambled and sent her back to the drawing board. It's a shame we may not get what would've been--which sounded like the first album by her I'd have really enjoyed--but "Slide Away" and "Midnight Sky" are okay… I don't know when Normani will ever get her debut out. I thought it would have come out like a year ago. :( Same with Chris Mann's next album; he's been teasing it for over a year. Kingdom Hearts 3's soundtrack is finally being released, but I may hold off on buying it for a while because it'll be very expensive, imo.

I also bought greatest hits for Diana Ross (the only album I had by her prior was The Force Behind the Power), the Supremes, Brooks & Dunn (I had one compilation already, but it was missing 5 or 7 songs I was in the mood to hear again. :P ), and Mary Chapin Carpenter. I buy a lot of albums a year or two after used, at a lower price. There are some albums from this year or last year that I still plan to get at some point that I haven’t got around to yet (like Adam Lambert's Velvet, Jessie Ware's What’s Your Pleasure?, Meghan Trainor's Treat Myself, Tori Kelly's Inspired by True Events and her Christmas album, Idina Menzel's second holiday album, etc.).

Yay!! I'm so glad you posted!

Carrie Underwood- My Gift, Mariah Carey- The Rarities, Taylor Swift- Folklore, Katy Perry- Smile, Meghan Trainor- Treat Myself (and A Very Trainor Christmas!), & Idina's 2nd Christmas album are on my wishlist. Yay another Leona Christmas album!! I didn't know that Tori Kelly had a Christmas album, so I just added it to my wishlist!

What is Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure: Plus Est En Vous soundtrack? (Or I should say, what is different in this French version?)

I hate digital music downloads in a way, because my downloaded music is so unorganized-- when I started downloading a decade and a half ago, sites had different formats for the music, so I have varying degrees of quality. I'd love to just start over, but I do not have the $ for that. I do like the instant ability to have the music, and sometimes I don't want a whole album...

The only physical album I bought this year is Mandy Moore- Silver Landings. Going through my Amazon receipts, some of the music I purchased is below (I didn't include random individual song downloads). I used Christmas $ to buy some back in January.

The only music I've gotten later in the year besides Mandy is the Hamilton Cast Album. So good. It was in my wishlist before Disney+, but I just had to get it after I saw it.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series
Disney Music Block Party (I bought it back in 2006 or whenever it came out, but lost it #digital music)
Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure
Babes in Toyland
Freaky Friday
Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen
The Happiest Millionaire
The Corner of Broadway and Main Street- Voctave
Everybody Loves Disney
Muppets: The Green Album
Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust- Kerry Butler
Rhett & Link's Buddy System (Music From Season 1)
Weezer- Teal Album
42nd Street (2017 London Cast)
DCappella (their album and singles)
Traci Hines (a bunch of songs)
Nick Ptera (a bunch of songs)
Anthem Lights (a bunch of songs)
Peter Hollens (a bunch of songs)
Ninja Six Party (a bunch of albums & songs)
Jonathan Young (a bunch of albums & songs)
Ava Max (some songs)
Anniela (some songs)

It's the soundtrack to the final season. I think "Plus Est En Vous" was the title of the series finale. It meant "There is more in you." :)

Same. I hate things being digital-only, but there is the benefit of being able to buy one song when you don't like the rest of the album. With artists I first discover, I try to listen through the album before I just buy it now that digital is an option. I don't do that with artists I have a "track record" with though, since there's sort of a trust there that they'll deliver something I like.
Everybody Loves Disney
Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust- Kerry Butler
Nick Ptera (a bunch of songs)
I like Nick Pitera even though I haven't bought anything by him. I looked up the Everybody Loves Disney album, but didn't really recognize any of the artists. I'll listen to when I have time to load some videos later. :) I noticed Peter Hollens was on the album and you included him on this list, which makes me curious over what he sounds like. I've had that Kerry Butler album bookmarked for several years. I'm not a huge fan of hers or anything--I remember being glad they didn't pick her for Ariel on Broadway--but I'm a sucker for Disney covers. I especially like that the track list includes "Call Me a Princess" and "I'll Try."

Years ago, when my sister and I were both in high school, she would make mix albums for me. That's how I have Lindsay Lohan's song from Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen ("It's Over"). I actually like it... It's a shame she had so many real life issues, since she had so much potential as an actress.

I LOVE Lindsay Lohan's music. I already had her songs from CoaTDQ & FF but I wanted the rest of the songs. I agree that it's a shame about her personal life.

I don't know if you have this "problem" of trying to find music that you'll like. I'm really into '90s/'00s pop music, and there are so many flops or one-hit wonders, & especially artists from other countries that didn't even make it in the States. There's a forum called Pop Justice that is huge but has a lot of good suggestions (if I can weed through their threads) & a site called similar-artist.info that I try to use to find these kinds of artists, but it's so much to weed through, and then so much of the music isn't available to download in the US (sometimes I guess Amazon used CDs or eBay would have albums, but that gets expensive, especially with CD singles). I wish there was like a master list of music. I have SO MUCH music already and it's an exhausting project.

Well, there's the "I Love Disney" CD, with Ariana Grande, Gwen Stefani, Ne-Yo, etc., and the Everybody Loves Disney album is just cover songs by people we haven't heard of. :p I, too, am a sucker for Disney cover songs. Peter Hollens is AMAZING!!! And Jonathan Young does a LOT of Disney covers, too. He's terrific. Traci Hines, too.

Yesterday I downloaded Katy Perry- Smile & Ashley Tisdale- Symptoms. Beyond the clips, I haven't heard them yet...

It definitely seems like Witness was Katy's Bionic & Smile is her Lotus, to use Christina Aguilera analogies...Nothing wrong with Witness and Bionic on their own, but they weren't what the fans really wanted after Prism & Back to Basics...

Yeah, that's likely how they are seen by the majority. I've always hated Bionic outside the ballads. Witness is actually the first album I bought by Katy for myself though (whereas I got copies of everything else from other people because I was determined not to support the autotuned singer trend). I guess I always resented her and all the other auto-tuned singers for taking over and pushing out people who actually could sing. But then "Chained to the Rhythm" served just what I was feeling in early 2017, and I bought it for the feminist themes more than anything else (overall, I still love Witness despite its weaknesses). I'd love to hear your thoughts, good or bad, on Smile whenever you have the chance to listen to it. No rush. :)

It's sort of the same reason I was looking forward to Miley Cyrus' coming album, the themes, since she's definitely not my favorite artist or voice at all. I used to really not like her. I think I first dipped my toes in the pool when "Wrecking Ball" came out because that song was good despite her in my mind. I bought that album, but hated every song on it other than the singles. I had no plans to ever buy another by her, but then she went on The Voice, which made me "get" her personality more to the point I liked her. (Well, that and some of Kathy Griffin's stories about her. ) Then "Malibu" had such a soft sound. I ended up getting it used for practically nothing; the whole album is listenable at least, unlike the Wrecking Ball album, even if nothing is a knockout.

I ended up getting into Kesha for the exact same reason as the above (she was another one of those autotuned singers that I resented back when). Rainbow was the first album of hers I'd ever bought because of the themes of the album and the whole thing ended up being fantastic. Unfortunately, High Road did not live up to Rainbow, although I liked a few songs. Still, I'd say she's a better writer and stronger talent than Katy or Miley for sure despite all three being weak singers. She's atheist though, so a few songs I have to re-write the lyrics for in my head as I sing along. :P

I will let you know how I like Smile when I get the chance to spend time with it! Bionic isn't bad, IMO; it does have more filler then I'd like, for sure. It has some gems on it ("I Am" is my favorite Christina song ever, and the first time I heard "Woohoo," I think I thought it was the funniest song ever, so I have a soft spot for it.), but give me a Back to Basics over Bionic any day.

Same with Katy: give me One of the Boys or Teenage Dream over Witness any day. (I prefer pop music over more electronic music, so I generally prefer earlier albums from artists that go that route.)

Yeah, Bangerz is not a good album. It's the only Miley album (besides the EPs she's released recently) that I haven't bought, but I did listen to it on YouTube. I downloaded "Wrecking Ball" and I eventually downloaded "We Can't Stop" (it took forever for me to like the song to do so; I couldn't stand it at first). Younger Now is a more mellow album, not my favorite of Miley's, but it's good. So much better than Bangerz.

Rainbow is the only album of Kesha's that I own, but I've always downloaded her previous singles. I actually was disappointed in it; it has done good songs, but it has some that I don't like much.

I already know I'm going to love Ariana Grande's new album, Positions. The first single is so good, and I love the video. She reminds me of Jackie Kennedy at points.

* Got these either used or new for $5. The Tim McGraw / Darius Rucker stuff I bought for Christmas presents, but I made copies to keep, too. A lot of the rest I bought as part of a B2G1 deal either this year or at the very end of last year, which puts them around $8. I'll probably pick up Darren Criss' and Kristin Chenoweth's Christmas albums used next year; the Christmas albums always end up in the Amazon Warehouse the year after. :P
