I'm not sure anyone has brought this up already, but I found a interesting article online:

http://thefilmstage.com/2010/12/07/cloudy-with-a-chance-of-meatballs-directors-to-sing-for-their-supper-with-new-disney-musical/

Quote:
‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs’ Directors to Sing for their Supper with New Disney Musical

The story of Bob follows a normal, unassuming guy who suffers a nasty blow to the head. A strange after effect caused by the bump on the noggin just happens to be that he is now able to hear the songs inside other peoples’ hearts. Freaky. The music and lyrics are being written by none other than Marc Shaiman, the composer of the original music for Hairspray.

What do you guys think?

^Only the person can hear the songs in people's hearts.

As for the whole concept, it sounds kind of fishy. :?

The premise sounds odd, but so did the premise for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and that turned out to be one of the most enjoyable surprises of 2009. So, I have faith in what Lord and Miller do with this story. Not to mention, Marc Shaiman is a great composer (the South Park soundtrack is one of the best musical scores to come out of the '90s).

That said, they both seem to have a lot of projects lined up. Apparently, they're making a film version of 21 Jump Street, followed by the LEGO movie, so it might be a while before we get this.

The premise sounds like crap. So does Cloudy with a chance of meatballs, and Over the hedge, and Surf's Up and that Owls-film and all other second-rate CGI-animated films that have come out the last few years.

Except this isn't an animated film; it's live action. Oh, and I love Legend of the Guardians. :P

The premise seems to have changed somewhat from when it was first announced last year. Originally it was going to be about to a guy who absolutely loathes musicals only to find that his whole life's become one. I got the impression from that original summary that people would be singing out loud while he miserably endures it all (sort of like the "Influenza: The Musical" episode of Even Stevens).

This new premise, like others are saying, sounds like What Women Want: The Musical. So that would be mean we never see anyone outright singing and certainly never dancing. That sounds a lot less interesting and hilarious than the original idea. I want a movie that's basically the "That's How You Know" segment from Enchanted. This doesn't look to be it.

I like Marc Shaiman. If nothing else, the songs will be fun.

"Bob the Musical" keeps singing at Disney. The Mouse House has hired Matthew Fogel to pen a new draft of the musical that "21 Jump Street" directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are attached to helm. The comedy revolves around Bob, a mild-mannered man who, after being struck on the head, suddenly hears the "inner song" in people's hearts and finds his life instantly turned into a musical, much to his dismay.

“Book of Mormon’s” Robert Lopez will pen the songs for the film. Marc Shaiman (“Hairspray”) had previously been attached.

Fogel's credits also include Fox and New Regency's "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son" and a remake of the European comedy "Rabbit Without Ears."

"Bob the Musical" has long been in development at Disney, with Mike Bender, and Babaloo Mandel and Lowell Ganz penning scripts for the comedy that Adam Shankman and Mark Waters were previously attached to direct.

Benderspink's Chris Bender and J.C. Spink and Contrafilm's Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are producing the pic.

Am I the only one who thought this was going to be a musical about "Bob the Builder" when I read the fucking title?

Regardless of how lame the premise sounds, you know this film is going to make a ton of money just by the fact alone that it's a musical. Me, I never got into the musical trend and I've already been long bored of it.

Q: Another thing I wanted to touch on was the recent rumor about Tom Cruise starring in a movie musical you wrote called Bob: The Musical.

Robert Lopez: To be honest, we don't know. We worked on that project a while back and kind of wrapped our work for now on it, so we haven't been in meetings about it for a while. We don't know. I know that they were talking about Tom Cruise for the lead way back when we were working on it, too, so it would be cool to see him actually do it.

Robert Lopez is no longer attached to the project.

Quote:
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon is in talks to work on Disney’s long-in-the-works comedy, Bob the Musical.

At the same time, Bret McKenzie, one half of musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords who wrote many songs for The Muppets and won an Oscar for best original song with "Man or Muppet," has been brought on board to compose ditties for the feature.

Apparently, this project is still in the works.

McKenzie is also currently developing “Bob the Musical!” for Disney as well as the Warner Bros. comedy “Moonland.”
