I thought The Little Mermaid was coming in 2022?

The only animated film I'm interested in is Spider-verse although Turning Red at least looks better than PIXAR films usually do--I like its aesthetic as much as Luca's. Fantastic Beasts, Avatar 2, Captain Marvel 2, and Sonic 2 are the only other things that I have much excitement to see. I'll catch the other superhero films / sequels and The Batman...but I'm not too hopeful about seeing another Batman origin film for the umpteenth time--although it already looks better than it has a right to with Robert Pattison as the lead. Ragnarok was a disappointment as well and I don't have too much much expectation for another Thor unless they somehow involve the GotG characters in that film. Black Panther 2 was a franchise I was hyped about until Chadwick Boseman passed; that sucked all the oxygen out of that franchise for me. I'd rather they made an Okoye solo movie than another Black Panther. I'll inevitably see it at some point though; same with Minions 2, Indiana Jones 5, and Lightyear.

To be clear, nothing here is really worth seeing in theaters, imo; I'll catch them when I catch them other than Spider-Verse and Fantastic Beasts which I'll buy on Blu-ray when the price is right. If TLM comes out this year, I'll see it in theaters once and hopefully not bash my brain out in the process. If TLM doesn't come out this year, I suppose I might watch Strange World if it's the only thing out around my birthday and there is no better option (if Spider-Verse is out in the winter, that's the one I'll see). I do like Timothee Chalamet and I do have confidence in Jennifer Lee, but I didn't care for that concept art we got. I think it's just as likely I could end up skipping seeing it in theaters the way I did BH6, Zootopia, and Ralph Breaks the Internet, but we're still in the early stage with that film.

I hate how everything is a superhero movie. Is no one bored of these? More Spider-Man? So exciting…

Out of these I suppose Jurassic World looks kinda fun. But hard to call that original either…

For me,
(Tie) 1. Strange World + Turning Red
2. Lightyear
3. The Bob's Burgers Movie (finally!!)
4. Avatar 2 (seriously finally!!)

Then the Marvel films.

And non-Disney-owned (I'm more excited for the first 3 than I am the Marvel):

Sonic 2
Minions
Across the Spiderverse
Jurassic World

I think with the current Spider-Man breaking records, people are not sick of superheroes.

I'm surprised Super Mario Bros isn't listed as one of the top 5 most anticipated family films, but then again, it doesn't have a trailer like the other films on that list. Just a teaser poster and a partial cast list.

Disenchanted β€” Fall 2022
Hocus Pocus 2 β€” Fall 2022
Pinocchio β€” Fall 2022
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special β€” December 2022
It's nice these were all next to one another, it made easier to copy and paste. Is this the Disney Pinocchio?? I thought that was getting theatrical release? I don't understand why it and Hocus Pocus 2 aren't theatrical releases. I can sort of understand Disenchanted being relegated to streaming though. :headshake:

You're in luck then. All members of Guardians of the Galaxy have been confirmed to be making an appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder.

There are already plans for an Okoye TV series. It's rumored that in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Okoye will get a girlfriend and that their relationship will be explored more in the subsequent series.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) is coming out on October 7, 2022.

Yes. Initially, it was going to be a theatrical release, but Disney decided to relegate it to streaming instead. Coincidentally, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is also coming out this year. It doesn't have an exact release date yet, but we know it's getting released on Netflix in late 2022.

Oh, wow, I wouldn't have expected that.

Such a shame about Pinocchio, I guess that means I won't see it, Hocus Pocus 2, or Disenchanted for a very long time... I still haven't seen Lady and the Tramp and that came out in 2019; you'd think it would've aired on Freeform by now. :( But at least good news about Thor involving the GotG cast and an Okoye film.

I briefly got the Spider-verse movie mixed up with the live-action Spider-man's in my head, which was why I ended up editing my first post so many times.

The only one on that list I'm anticipating is the second Downton Abbey film, and then Nope. But I'll probably see several of the others eventually (Dr. Strange, Thor, Minions 2, Lightyear).

Re: Most anticipated Disney movie of 2022

I made a ranking at the beginning of the year, but I never posted it since I planned to add some comments about each film which I never finished. Since we're almost halfway through the year, I thought it would be a good moment to share an updated version of it for the remaining 2022 movies. It combines both theatrical and streaming titles. Turning Red was at the top spot before and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was between Lightyear and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The rest hasn't changed much. Only that The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Mickey: The Story of a Mouse weren't there before since at first I didn't plan to include documentarties and TV specials. Chip N' Dale: Rescue Rangers didn't even appear in my previous ranking since it was just a top 10. This time I've included all the films I have some interest in, though I've divided them into two categories: the ones I'm excited for and the ones I'm just curious about.

Film's I'm looking forward to

1. Disenchanted: I'm more excited for the songs than for the film itself, since Disney doesn't have a very good track record with sequels of movies like these, but I am looking forward to revisit this world and its characters too, especially Amy Adams who was great in the first. The possibility of 2D-animated segments is, of course, very exciting as well, but that still hasn't been confirmed. I really hope they don't use cell-shaded CGI like in Chip 'n Dale.

2. Lightyear: I like sci-fi films and anything related to Toy Story, so I've been excited for this from the beginning, although I have to admit the film looked a bit more interesting to me at first; now I feel I can guess more or less how most of the story will go. Anyway, I'm still quite excited to see it.

3. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: I loved the first film and I think Ryan Coogler is a great director, so this sequel will probably be good too, but I'm not looking forward to seeing T'Challa die. A big part of why I liked Black Panther so much was Chadwick Boseman's performance as the title character. It won't be the same without him. The rest of the cast was great too, though, and I loved the world of Wakanda, so I hope I'll be able to enjoy it in spite of his absence and the inevitable sad moments.

4. Strange World: I was very disappointed with the character designs, especially for what it could mean for the future of the studio, since as I explained, Disney's house style is one of the key aspects (if not the most important one) of why I love Disney. Nevertheless, this is still a WDAS movie after all and the adventure aspect of it looks interesting to me, so it's still among my most anticipated movies of the rest of the year.

5. Thor: Love and Thunder: As I said on the film's thread, I wasn't a big fan of the last entry in the franchise, but this one looks more interesting to me based on the trailers.

6. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special: I don't have this higher since it's just a Christmas special and not a full movie, but it'll be great to get more of these characters and this world.

7. Mickey: The Story of a Mouse: I'm interested in this as well and in the new Mickey Mouse short included in it.

Films I'm just curious about (at least for now)

8. Hocus Pocus 2: I'm not as big a fan of the original as others, but I do like it and I think this sequel could be fun.

9. Pinocchio: The fact that it's directed by Robert Zemeckis makes me a bit more curious about it than about other remakes, but I doubt his involvement will be enough for me to enjoy the final product.

10. Peter Pan & Wendy: I doubt it'll be released this year. In my opinion, David Lowery did a decent job with Pete's Dragon, but that wasn't a remake of a WDAS film and I tend to have more issues with the latter.

11. Avatar: The Way of Water: I didn't like Avatar too much and I'm only a little curious about this first sequel. James Cameron has been working on this for years, so hopefully that means he had time to create a better and more original story this time. I'm not sure if I'll see it in theaters, though.

12. The Banshees of Inisherin: This and Amsterdam will probably be awards contenders and I've enjoyed past films from both directors, so I might find these ones interesting too.
