Hamilton opinions aside, I think it's remarkable that they did a proshot of the musical with the original cast. Proshots are rare, but proshots with the original cast are even rarer. I think the only other two are Sunday in the Park with George and Into the Woods.
I think that creators should consider doing proshots early on so that they could document their musicals as it was envisioned, it's too bad that they don't.

He's probably talking about the archival tape done for the TOFT, which is done for most Broadway productions but never meant to be released.

That might be the case. I think that it might also be the case with Hadestown unfortunately.rodrigo_ca wrote:He's probably talking about the archival tape done for the TOFT, which is done for most Broadway productions but never meant to be released.

Maybe in a few countries they will make a musical like this about Life of Donald Trump
or maybe a Trump biography musical would be more like Lloyd Webber's Human Sacrifice .

Re: “Hamilton” moved up, coming to Disney+ July 3rd 2020
I finally saw it with a friend's Disney+. Wow. Well, yeah, it was really, really great. It lived up to the hype. When I listened to the album I didn't care for it, but seeing it (also with subtitles) helped me understand more what was going on, and made it more powerful, and I just liked it more. I thought Lafayette/Jefferson was the best dude actor, aside from Hamilton himself first and George III second, but my favorite characters were Anjelica, followed by Eliza, then George III. I think I really relate to hurting women, and especially ones in unrequited love. Anyway, I even liked the music better this go around. This movie convinced me Lin Manuel Miranda is a genius actually. I'm not saying he's a genius in everything or that everything he does is good, but it took serious brain ability and creativity for this thing. Oh, and I thought George Washington had the best voice of the cast. Man could he sing.
P.S. I thought Eliza's gasp at the end was her seeing Hamilton, or her son, in Heaven, but the creators and actors make it sound like she was probably seeing that her and Hamilton's story was told.

^The actor who played Lafayette/Jefferson is Daveed Diggs. He won a Tony for Hamilton and he's going to be in Soul and in The Little Mermaid remake as Sebastian.
The actor who played King George III is Jonathan Groff - Kristoff from Frozen.
The actor who played George Washington is Christopher Jackson, he was the singing voice of Chief Tui, Moana's father.
Angelica was also my favorite character and Satisfied was my favorite song.

Oh wow, all those people are so associated with Disney! Can't wait for Soul! And yay, my third favorite of the dude actors won the Tony!
I forget which was my favorite song...I liked that one about "The Story of Tonight" a lot. I think that was my favorite song, it had such a beautiful melody. But the thing about the way the music was written, it was more like I liked parts of most of the songs than the whole songs. Still genius.
I'm so glad Angelica was both our favorite characters!

I don't know who of the others you liked, but other Tony winners are Leslie Odom Jr. (Aaron Burr) and Renée Elise Goldsberry (Angelica Schuyler).
Lin-Manuel Miranda, Phillipa Soo (Eliza), Christopher Jackson and Jonathan Groff were nominated.
Another interesting fact is that Phillipa Soo is going to be in Glen Keane's Over the Moon.

Thanks for the article, Sotiris. But I read the article and I still don't get what keeps Hamilton from the Oscars.

Essentially, it's because the Academy doesn't want to award a taped performance of a stage show. They feel that recorded performances of plays are not cinema and they shouldn't be allowed to compete with real movies. They invoked a catch-all rule that gives them discretion to disqualify any project they want.

Oh ok. What is the specific catch-all rule?

And its members decided to disqualify Hamilton, citing Rule Two, Section G of the 93rd Academy Awards Rules, which states in part: "The Awards Rules Committee will evaluate all matters of rules and eligibility."

Re: “Hamilton” moved up, coming to Disney+ July 3rd 2020
That's the part that confused me. It seems like they are saying the rule that disqualifies Hamilton is that they will evaluate other rules. So I guess it is one of the other rules that actually that disqualifies it? And it is one saying they won't allow taped performances? I didn't see that rule.
