Lizzie McGuire Revival

After Girl Meets World and Raven's Home, Disney's now looking to continue another teen series, Lizzie McGuire!
Hilary Duff is feeling excited about the possibility of returning to one of her most iconic roles. ET's Katie Krause caught up with the 31-year-old actress at Love Leo Rescue's 1st Annual Cocktails for a Cause Fundraiser at Rolling Greens in Los Angeles, where she revealed that there have been discussions about reviving Lizzie McGuire, her Disney Channel show that ran from 2001 to 2004.

"There's been some conversations," Duff teased of a revival, before cautioning, "It's definitely not a go. I don't want to get everyone wild talking about it."

For Duff, though, the possibility of returning to the role is certainly a happy thought. "I mean I love her so much," she gushed of the lovable character and her animated alter ego. "I think she was so important to girls at an important time in their life. If she could be important to them again at this age, I think that would be amazing."

While Duff played coy about where Lizzie would be today -- "There's been lots of conversations about that," she said -- there's one thing she doesn't think Lizzie has experienced quite yet. "I'm racking my brain," Duff said. "I don't think she's a mom yet, but she might be getting there soon." Though she continued to caution that nothing's set in stone just yet, Duff admitted, "It's fun. I feel excited. It could be a possibility or it could be nothing, so we'll see," she added.

Well, this is not a surprise, due to how Lizzie McGuire was Disney's cash cow once. It won't be surprising if Disney will run a Hannah Montana-reboot in the future :P

Just wondering, what were your thoughts about Lizzie McGuire, Sotiris?

This could be something special in the revival era though if they brought it to ABC and marketed it to the generation who originally watched the show. Make it about her finding her way into adulthood, motherhood, etc. And with most of the original cast still gushing about how they’d like to return, I don’t see why this couldn’t be a more suburban Sex and the City, or even go the friend/family route and pull almost an extended family comedy that focuses on her the most... sort of in an Arrested Development framing. Plus with Disney’s streaming service coming out, they may not need ABC at all. And from the interviews she did give, she said the character wouldn’t be a mom yet, which means no kids and no way it would go to Disney Channel. I really think if they took a leap of faith on this and marketed to the original audience who are now almost 30, it could be a big deal.

I'm happily surprised (even though I don't have cable and only have seen some pilot Disney Channel episodes for newer shows since Disney uploaded them to YouTube); in the past Hilary has flip-flopped on whether she'd ever like to play Lizzie again:

This should be interesting and I hope they reference the film because I always loved that.

A shame this will be on Disney+, I think I’d actually like to watch a couple of episodes of it. I hope they bring Gordon back somehow…

Maybe eventually it’ll sink down to Freeform after a few years. :P

If you want absolutely no spoilers, don't even read the full link!
Hilary Duff Says Lizzie McGuireIsn’t Engaged to Gordoin Disney+ Reboot

That never even crossed my mind, and while I would have been 100% fine with Lizzie and Video being together, I like that the show will be more realistic, that most people don't find their future spouse in middle school/junior high,as much as that would sometimes make life easier!! It's like how I feel that Enchanted and Pocahontas 2 are realistic in showing the reality of relationships!

Is Video supposed to be Gordo? I can't remember a character named Video in the show.

Must admit, I'm looking forward to this way more than I probably should. I just have really fond memories of the original.

Did some snooping, and saw Hilary Duff is now following Lalaine and Clayton Snyder (Miranda and Ethan) on Instagram. Just a few months ago she wasn’t. My guess is they are on board as well, and we’ll be getting announcements about additional returning cast members periodically to keep the hype up.

Strange that she wasn't following them before. I guess they don't keep in touch or were never really friends all these years. The Zoey 101 cast, in comparison, all seem pretty close and tight-knit to this day.

We have learned that the upcoming revival of ‘Lizzie McGuire’ will include an openly gay character and an agoraphobic character. These two characters will be neighbours of Lizzie McGuire as the series follows her navigating life in New York City. One neighbour is codenamed Carson Lang (it is unknown if this will be the character’s actual name in the series), Lang will be a neighbour and friend of Lizzie McGuire, he will likely feature in a series regular capacity in the series. The other neighbour is codenamed Sooz who will be Lizzie’s neighbour who dislikes leaving home and also has agoraphobia.
